I just chatted with customer service at Delta airlines to...

...assure them that given their support for over suppression in their corporate statement, as a one time (precovid) and perhaps future business traveler I will be avoiding their airline like the plague.

1. I know details don't matter to anyone anymore, but they reversed course today.

5. Hmm, I'd be inclined to take the W

But berating low salary employees on the phone is probably more satisfying.

10. I used an online chat.

I'm sure their IT executives who will be monitoring these exchanges are quite well paid.

The chat by the way failed the Turing test.

8. I didn't read their first statement as harshly as others did

And todayís clarification (condemning it, strongly) makes me think I was right.

Iíd give them a tad bit of credit anyway

9. It's not details, it's what they say after they've revealed their true selves and seen the reaction.

That's what doesn't matter.

3. I hope that employee sends the message up the hierarchy,

since that person obviously has no power to change anything. I'm a Delta retiree and I'm embarrassed for them, though they backtracked somewhat yesterday.

I will be flying with them.

6. Yeah, they have blocked seats the longest

Extending into the end of next month. I have a flight booked on Delta next month and had no intention of canceling it anyway.

11. Good point. Ferdinand Porche designed the Volkswagen...

...Bug at the request of Hitler, and it got great mileage.

I didn't know that when I owned a Bug as a kid, but I do now.

I'd feel differently if I'd known that about owning one.

We each make our ethical decisions based on the balance between our own needs and those of humanity.

There was no evidence that the Georgia voting procedures needed "fixing." The only problem was that black people exercised their right to vote. That Delta's CEO implied that the "fix" was legitimate says all I need to know.

I have a choice of which airlines I'll fly, and if the CEO of one is a racist, and it's easy for me to come down on the side of humanity. That Hitler motivated the creation of a reliable affordable car for young people in the 1950s, 60s and 70s - sorry for the Godwin here - would have mattered to me had I known it.

19. I'd buy a VW in a heartbeat if I didn't love my Subaru so much.

Oh damn, the Subaru is made by a Japanese company that made aircraft throughout WW2. What to do, what to do?

21. I'm a very old man. When I was a kid...

...and driving bugs they were being made in factories rebuilt after bombing where slaves built bugs and tanks.

My response to understanding these facts later in life was very much like that of some of the workers employed in making the bugs I drove, to wit, "I didn't know." The people who committed these atrocities were still alive. In fact Joachim Pieper, who oversaw the executions of American POWS at the battle of the Bulge, a comparatively minor crime among his other crimes, was once sentenced to death, but following commutation was released, became a Porsche executive.

Later he became a Volkswagen sales executive.

Sometimes history can be too forgiving. I often wonder whether we still would be fighting Jim Crow, if some of the traitors who fought for the Confederacy, betraying the oaths to the US had faced consequences for attempting to overthrow the government, a question involving similarly minded racists in the 21st century in this country.

That would be enough to make me rethink it. But you do you.

If you take that as an insult, then perhaps think about your boycott.

26. First of all, I'm not boycotting anyone.

I take comparison with the former guy as insulting, not the idea of a boycott.

Trump is a very stupid man who has not had an original idea in his life.

Surely you realize that boycotts have long been a tool for change, or do you?

In fact one famous boycott was the Montgomery bus boycott. It was a tool used against racists like Trump.

Some people feel it sent the US on a trajectory to become a better nation. I'm one of them.

When I was young many people boycotted businesses doing business with apartheid South Africa.

The United States often enacts economic sanctions.

You give the orange racist far more credit than hw deserves, but clearly this conversation is becoming a bit silly, isn't it?

I'm glad you enjoy your Subaru; my son drives one too.

I do recommend more than a cursory familiarity with the contents of history books, but if people decline such familiarity that's none of my business.

Have a very nice evening.

27. So you respond by insulting me. The irony, oh lord.

I have much more than a cursory familiarity with the contents of history books, but thanks for the condescension. If you thought you were being subtle, you were not. Enjoy your boycotts!

I Emailed Coke few days ago shaming them and letting them know I will doing Pepsi from now on. All they care about is the bottom line so if enough of us speak out and then they see their sales drop . . . . Just my 2 cents worth.

Best service and now no 737 max death traps.

I really donít expect companies to side one way or the other with anything political. Iím happy if they do support the liberal side, but donít expect it as a condition of my business.
