President Biden picking up a kids toy

from the
Esquire article

snip..."he has a deep and abiding empathy. He carries his personal tragedies with great dignity, and employs them only when it is absolutely called for. On Tuesday, as they conducted a memorial service for Capitol Police Officer Billy Evans in the Rotunda, he deployed it in the gentlest way possible.

One of Evans’s daughters was fidgety, playing with a small replica of the Capitol dome. Fidgety kids are one of those extraneous details that great undertakers discreetly handle for The Family. The little girl dropped the toy on the floor. It bounced a little ways away from where she was sitting. The president instantly popped out of his chair, picked up the child’s toy, and handed it back to her, stopping to talk to her, too,

To compare this moment of humble humanity to anything having to do with the president’s predecessor is to cheapen it unforgivably. These are different species of homo sapiens, as different from each other as swans are from vultures. Kindness towards a child would seem to be a baseline indicator of civility and grace but, nonetheless, there it was, in front of god and the world. That it seemed so powerful is not just because of what it was, but because of all that it was not."

I made a note of it.

Every week, our Indivisible group issues a Call to Action email, with five weekday asks and events for the next two to three weeks. It always starts with the “Inspirational Opening.” Instead of the usual stirring or relevant quotes for next week, I’m gonna use this link. With the title and Charlie Pierce’s intro.

Trump would have

A Ignored it
B Kicked it, ostensibly back to the kid, but skittering way across the floor, disrupting everything
C Picked it up and kept it
D Picked it up and forced the kid to come after it; wouldn't give it back until he extracted a promise from the kid to do something for him
E Wouldn't have been there in the first place for a sucker and a loser like Evans

So many possibilities.

She might not have dropped the toy.

It might have fallen but was a stuffed animal so it just stayed where it fell.

It might have rolled any number of ways but it didn’t.

It rolled right towards the man who is one of the sweetest, empathetic humans around. Who also happens to be the President. It rolled his way so he could have a moment to let that little girl know her Dad was loved, respected, and will be missed. I don’t know what was said but knowing what I do know of Joe Biden it was something that will mean something to the family.

Sometimes wonderful things happen when something terrible has happened. A little light on the darkness.

I bet he didn't even think about picking up that child's toy and handing it to her. It's the instinctive act of a parent, or one who is just instrinsically kind.

You know, the job he gets to - AFTER the important stuff is taken care of: after he’s tucked the kids in bed, read them their favorite stories complete with funny character voices, and then checking UNDER the bed to make sure all the goblins and beasties were cleared outta there.

Can’t help loving this guy.

What a difference from the last selfish vainglorious putz!

A dad would do that. A grandpa would do that. Always looking out for the kids to make sure everything’s okay.

And now, he‘a looking out for ALL of us to at least try to make everything okay (or, at least, better than it had been).

Lucky we are.

But I doubt they will report or show this video. President Biden is a demented feeble old man !

And I doubt the orange maggot would have even attended the service in the first place.
