I am guessing from his age and current placement as a Drill Instructor, he may have been planning on making the military his career. He could, potentially, lose a stripe, or two, with a cut in pay. Given the current focus on White 'Supremacy' in the military, right now, it would be satisfying if they turn him into an example of what happens when you do something as despicable as assault/battery a civilian who is doing nothing more than taking a stroll.

This whole thing just flashes me back to what I witnessed during my time in the military. It was not good.

Since it did not happen while on duty and off base more than likely the Army will reduce his rank along with loss of pay. His military career is pretty much in the crapper as far as promotions go. If he stays in he may get one more from where he ends up after this incident but that is it. They also will be looking into and watching his treatment of minorities as a drill instructor.
