Remember this as Tim Scott delivers the response to President Biden.

Tim Scott is nothing but an opportunist. He desperately wanted to be in politics and he didnít care which side he was on. He believes in nothing. Heís a hired stooge.

He visited the local Democratic Party headquarters to tell them he was interested in running for [an open Charleston City Council seat]. "They told me to get in line," Scott laughs. He went straight to the GOP headquarters. "They said, 'You probably won't win, but heck we'd love to see you run.'" And just like that, Scott was a Republican.

3. But this part tells you all you need to know

He was volunteering [in 1994] on the congressional campaign of a young man named Mark Sanford

So this nonsense tale he is weaving about investigating running as a "Democrat" is pure bullshit IMHO. A quick search notes the district that ("Appalachian Trail" ) Sanford was running in (1st congressional) had generally been gerrymandered along the SC coast and in that 1994 race being referenced, there was apparently only one Democrat who ran for their primary but multiple Republicans for theirs. So back then, he had already gravitated towards working for the GOP, which in that location at that time, was a sure thing for the GOP. So since he did that, why would the party suddenly want him to run as a Democrat for a seat in a city of Democrats? I expect they already knew his history.

4. He was looking to run for the Charleston City Council.

And his goal was to sign up for whichever party required the least amount of effort to the fastest track. Thatís all that mattered to him, and thatís what he did. Thatís really the point of the story. I know from first-hand accounts that he even asked people at the Democratic HQ if they could get him the backing of Mayor Riley (Dem mayor from 1975-2016) and they were like: who are you? Anyway, the guy is basically just a political mercenary.

8. Yeah and I think they sized his lazy ass up pretty quickly

Had he even made an attempt to work for the lone Democrat in that 1st Congressional District, then I expect they might have at least been aware of him. But it was obvious that he wasn't interested then nor invested in the Democratic platform.

This describes Scott -

(the rest - "Don't let them know what you're against or what you're for" )

5. To be fair, that can be said of every Republican politician.

They are ALL opportunists. They're all only in it to enrich themselves. They don't, and never have given a shit about their constituents. All they care about is power, attention, and lining their own pockets. Tim Scott is no different.

As for Scott believing in nothing, that's true. He's got to be the most useless senator to represent this state in my lifetime. He hasn't done shit for us. All he has done has been to vote on party lines, and allow himself to be trotted out every time his party needs to say, "Look! We have black people, too!"

6. All good points. I think what sets him apart is

what you said in your second paragraph. He is uniquely hollow.

7. It's funny - I've always gotten EXACTLY this vibe from Michael Steele! I've called

Steele out countless times on DU as an opportunist. I'm utterly disgusted by his double-talking, where he goes on and on about how everyone in the Republican party has gone completely off the rails, but he's still a proud, chest-thumping Republican himself, because he somehow still believes in the "principles" of the party.

9. Not Buying What Tim Scott is Selling

I am not buying the idea that the Democratic Party in Charleston, South Carolina refused to allow Tim Scott to run for the open seat. At most, someone likely jokingly told him to get in line because so many other people were already running on the Democratic side. The "get in line" comment is often used when someone tells another person there are multiple people eager to do the same thing. For example, if I say I want to punch a particular person who is not popular, a likely response will be "get in line". I have never thought that line meant you had to wait your turn; I always thought it meant you are not the only person wanting to do something. From what I have learned doing a small amount of research that is true. Most people seem to believe "get in line" means there are a large amount of people who want to do what you are trying to do.
