I got to hug and hold my granddaughter, along with my daughter in law, and my son too.
1st time in almost a year. My D i L made a birthday dinner for my Mom's 90th birthday
@ her house not too far from where I live. I watched my mom and her great granddaughter
sit on the couch as they read, "Barnyard Dance" together.

(759 posts)To emerge on the other side of the pandemic is a relief. The vaccines are our key to returning to a normal life. I look forward to visiting my mother after a one year hiatus.

(19,558 posts)I'm deeply happy you're regaining your semblance of normal.
All of my family are fully vaccinated now, too. It's such a relief!!
I had a pod with my daughter early on, we did two weeks of hard lockdown (which meant my husband and I not working, they worked from home) to see them. Then my mom's home burned and she was forced to come here. Our pod was broken. Once here mom had a major fall, follow up health visits, etc. I didn't see my little angles for months and months and months. It broke me.
The point being, when you're able to reconnect with those closest to you everything seems brighter, happier and better again! We've just now entered our safe zone recently and the goodness is quickly eclipsing the] past year of horrors. I recently was able to see a 92 year old great grandmother to my grandchildren. She's fully vaccinated and doing the tour of her loved ones. She lost all of her surviving siblings during Covid-19 and 49 of her friends in her assisted living home. She spent an entire year getting updates via text because she couldn't figure out zoom. She saw not a single person for a year, but knew everyone who died around her.
That's a level of isolation I truly cannot conceive of. It breaks my heart into a million pieces!

(81,181 posts)Ours came on Easter Sunday. First time we got hugged by anybody outside of just the two of us - in more than a year! Got to meet the new grandbaby, too! I know exactly how you feel. It's been a LOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNG time!

(6,582 posts)I hope this pandemic makes people realize that the things we sometimes take for granted - the company of a friend, the hug of a loved one - are often the most important things in life.
