— and Caitlyn Jenner's recall hopes sink

Conservative critics of California Gov. Gavin Newsom seem to have made a serious miscalculation by seeking to recall and replace him this fall, new data suggests.

Three months ago, a plurality of registered California voters (48 percent) disapproved of the job the Democratic governor was doing, according to a poll conducted by the Institute of Governmental Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Just 46 percent approved. The official recall campaign, which had launched a year earlier but only recently gained momentum, appeared to have a real (if still remote) chance of success.

But something else was happening three months ago as well: California was just coming off perhaps the scariest COVID-19 surge in America, averaging more than 500 deaths every day after enduring roughly 40,000 cases per day since Christmas.

Their "the sky is falling" gaslighting strategy failed.

What I like to say about Republicans/Conservatives is that you can ALWAYS count on them to do one thing, that is overreach. It is in their ideology. They think that they are ordained by god to be in charge so they will ALWAYS ALWAYS overreach. They have messaging that appeals to the baser instincts of many people, but ultimately, they overreach and put themselves out of power. They took out Davis and gave us Schwarzenegger but then basically exiled themselves out of power even with the stupid "supermajority" rule for revenue bills because they can never leave well enough alone.

I hope the trend keeps up, Newsom keeps working and stops shooting himself in the foot, and the Republicans stay the laughing stock of California politics.

to indulge their political fantasies. They’re a bunch of incompetent assholes pulling down 6- and 7-figure incomes simply due to the fact that they will say and do anything to push their BS.

I mean other places have just nutbags like Greene, Bohbert, and Gohmert. They have dumbasses like Chip Roy, Gozar, and Virginia Foxx, but California tends to have the smarmiest jerks like Darryl Issa, Devin Nunes, and Kevin McCarthy. Our Republicans are just have a special "ick factor". People like Duke Cunningham and Duncan Hunter, just awful awful scumbags who would sell out their state and country for a dime.

our money. The saving grace is:

1. If the recall is defeated soundly, it will send a loud message to republicans nationwide that we will hit them hard in 2022. Rightwing outlets, WSJ and fox, have been pushing for Newsom's defeat, and nothing would make me happier than to see them with egg on their collective faces.

2. If the recall goes down in flames, which it will as long as we GOTV, the outside repukes, orange country, and Bakersfield repukes and trumpers will have just wasted millions in running their useless campaigns.

I cannot express in words the disdain I have for the entire republican party

Treat it like a general and try to get comparable numbers of Democrats voting. That way, worst case , Newsom wins by a healthy margin. Best case, the discouraged rank-and-file MAGA member turnout is low and its a landslide.

Two solid votes in my household and ballots will be cast as soon as it's possible to do so.
