Are Republicans Courting Disaster with Trumpist Loyalty Tests?

The lack of ideological diversity and any meaningful policy debate within the antebellum Democratic Party caused that organization to enact an extreme program that enraged the majority of Americans and caused national disaster. Republicans in 2021 seem to be following that same strategy: punishing dissent, expelling moderates, and favoring conservative purity over practical policy. Moreover, just as Democrats in the 1850s tried to force slavery on anti-slavery populations, Republicans today are forcing their minority agenda on the majority through voter suppression laws, gerrymandering, and illegal activity. If Republicans value the health and future of their party, and the nation, they need to take a look at the past and reconsider their persecution of moderates.

Of course they are courting disaster. They have jumped the Trump cult shark.

Interesting article... Compare and Contrast 1850’s & 2021. Neo GOP repeating the pro-slavery Democratic Party strategy of the 1850s, whose extremist white supremacist governance policies precipitated the Civil War…

One would have to equate the Trump presidency as equivalent with the Buchanan presidency. I don't see much similarity there. I think the Supreme Court will pull a Dred Scott with Roe v Wade but that will happen well after Trump left office. Whether this has the affect of smacking this country into the realization what the Republicans truly stand for like the Dred Scott decision did is unknown in my mind.

Control of mind, body and thought is what the new Republican party stands for. Whether it's teaching history, controlling women's reproductive and life choices, determining what constitutes the truth and forcing private companies to accommodate their supporters wishes the Republicans have strayed very far from their Reagan principles in my opinion (small government, lower taxes and less government oversight).

To be honest, I don't think Trump represents the "high water mark" of where Republicans will go. I think they will continue to game the system (voter suppression, gerrymandering and other Senate-like gimmicks) to push their agenda.

I don't know how many more elections people will tolerate where the popular vote doesn't determine the outcome of the Presidential elections and the Senate can bottle up legislation passed and theoretically supported by the majority of voters. I personally have had enough of the shenanigans and want a "divorce" from the insanity of these people. To do this, I'd like to keep more tax receipts local. You hate taxes, then fine live within your means. You should support your own roads, schools and public infrastructure with local taxes and you should get a yearly bill for the federal services such as the military. There's too much tax transfer for blue to red areas IMHO.

They are probably not worried about it because they know with Gerrymandering of districts in the states they do not have to do much campaigning in the house or state legislatures and can concentrate on the Senate and Presidential elections which are hard for them since they are state wide.

PS plus they know with the propaganda they have spread over the last 50 yrs against Democrats a good portion of people will vote against their own self interest just because the candidate has an "R" after their name.

That article sheds light of how similar tactics by players in politics, from a long time ago, brought this country a century or more of turmoil.

I wish the GOP would wake up from the evil grip of the previous oval office occupant. Maybe the deluded minions, need to be
deprogrammed. Something is very wrong with their steadfast allegiance, to the golden blob.

I doubt they will change their tune anytime soon, as in, in this , their current life.

They 100% believe this is a winner for them and see their only path back to power as running through Trump.

And they don't care that they aren't appealing to a majority or even a plurality of voters, they've moved on from that, their tactics are more about motivating a minority and ending Democracy for the rest of us.

Slowly but surely they're all going to turn 180 degrees. It's the only way forward. Maybe Liz Cheney actually did accomplish some good, but time will tell.
