Her "bowl of shit" insult about Joe Biden was unforgivable... she was, in effect, telling voters that Biden was just as bad as Trump. (Now... WHERE have we heard comments like THAT before?)

Things like that to not serve any good purpose.

100. Anyone still doing Both Sides: unforgivable.

Democrats being "ideologically bankrupt" and corrupt because all they think about is money, that anyone working for corporations or financial companies donating to elect Democrats was corrupting? What the hell was that about?

218. Katie Porter also endorsed

Maya Wiley for Mayor of NYC.

With all due respect for Ms. Wiley, whom I do respect (but isn't my top candidate), zip it Katie Porter.

I'm sorry, but NYC isn't her business. Ohio isn't her business. This is hubris.

Nina Turner is exactly like Susan Sarandon and the other Bernie or bust crowd. They wanted Bernie or they would try to destroy the party.

80. Nina Turner and Shontel Brown diverge on Israel-Gaza conflict

I can see Katie liking the more progressive candidate.

Further underscoring that contrast, both candidates offered sharply divergent statements this week as violence escalated between Israel and Hamas. “In times like these the United States must stand firmly behind our close ally Israel,” Brown said in comments to Jewish Insider on Wednesday, while urging “all sides, regardless of fault, to exercise restraint and de-escalate the crisis.”
“Hamas’s massive rocket attacks are deeply troubling and must stop,” Brown added. “Hamas is placing civilians on both sides at risk. Israel has the right to defend its citizens in the face of these attacks. Israeli families should never have to spend the night in a bomb shelter.”
Turner, on the oth er hand, positioned herself firmly on the side of the Palestinians. “Solidarity is a verb,” Turner declared in a briefly worded Twitter message, adding a raised-fist emoji to the end of her comment. https://jewishinsider.com/2021/05/nina-turner-and-shontel-brown-diverge-on-israel-gaza-conflict/So

221. :) When actions defeat claimed goals, believe the actions?

Antagonism on the farther left toward the dominant liberal mainstream has the same kind of irrational, from-the-gut foundation as the antagonism of the trumpists. The rest follows.

Nothing new here.

Where is the admission from Nina that campaigning and voting for Jill stein was a mistake? Has Nina apologized for her comments about voting for actual Democrats being like eating shit?

I would love to nina’s apologies. Please post links to these apologies.

Why would real members of the Democratic Party be comfortable voting for a Just Us Semocrat and a member of a third party??

115. She seriously considered running as Jill Stein's running mate AGAINST the Democratic ticket....

....back in 2016, she openly pointed out that she voted for Jill Stein, and when asked if she would support Joe Biden she responded by claiming he was a half bowl of shit, trump being the other half of that bowl.

She may call herself a Democrat, but she has demonstrated that she's much less of a Democrat over the years than her toughest opponent in the primary.

140. I don't know what you did or didn't miss, but she gave serious consideration to running....

.....with Jill Stein as her VP.

What you might have missed is that she didn't vote for the Democratic candidate, but DID vote for Jill Stein and, when asked last year if she voted 3rd party she coyly said (paraphrasing) "who I voted for is my business". She did speak at the so-called "People's Convention" with Jill Stein in July 2016, days after our convention ended. Did she "pal around" with OUR nominee that week, or just OUR nominee's opponent?

You may have also missed this now infamous quote of her when assessing the choice of voting for trump or Biden:

"‘You have a bowl of shit in front of you, and all you’ve got to do is eat half of it instead of the whole thing. It’s still shit.”

Is this the kind of "Democrat" you want to see in Congress?

216. And being Republican as a college freshman before becoming a Democrat, never voting

for a Republican, means one can never, ever change and must remain an evil Republican for all eternity. It is a scientific fact!

What happened in the '60s is current events, not ancient history, but calling Democrats corrupt, immoral, evil, bribed, same as Republicans, right up until one is forced to run as a Democrat because you'll lose as a third party candidate (in this case 2021): ancient history. You just change lanes and claim you're the true Democrat, more Democratic than Democrats.

Nobody's falling for that.

And for the same reasons. It's the only real path to a win. It's for political expediency, including access to party resources and support.

He serves in Congress and runs his Congressional campaigns as an independent and also identifies as same.

Sorry but that is bullshit. If we allow that to happen we will not have a party. There is having a big tent and there is allowing others to completely undermine and destroy the padty from within. If you declare yourself to NOT be a democrat you damn well should NOT run or even be allowed to run as a democrat. If you refer to the party leaders as a half a bowl of shit you are not a member of my party. If you peddle lies and tight wing talking points you are not a member of my party.

The part HAS to stand for something and mean something and the platform has to be adopted by its members. If not then we will not ever be able to deliver on anything.

95. Well, Trump considered running as a Democrat. People who don't believe in

Democratic Party ideals do sometimes run as Democrats in blue districts, disguising their true views to get power.

Turner admitted she refused to vote Democratic in 2016 and openly advised everyone to leave the party -- and has continued ever since (except right now).

She sees weakening the Democratic Party as necessary to protect progressivism in government from both the Democratic Party that created it and the Republican Party determined to destroy progressive government.

It's also apparently her way of protecting her vote as a black woman from the rising racist, misogynistic fascism of the Republican Party.

A noble cause in her mind no doubt.

Individual endorsers include former Kentucky state lawmaker Charles Booker, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson, Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, and a host of faith leaders.

Actors and activists Danny Glover, Mark Ruffalo, and Susan Sarandon have also endorsed Turner.

She has also been endorsed by organizations including numerous unions and environmental groups, Justice Democrats, Our Revolution, Progressive Democrats of America, Roots Action, and the Working Families Party.

186. Where is the money coming from - 1st quarter report

Nina Turner has raised a total of $2.2 million so far for her bid to succeed Marcia Fudge in Congress, while another leading candidate, Shontel Brown, has brought in $680,0000.

Turner, a former state senator and Cleveland City Council member, has developed a national profile as a leading Bernie Sanders supporter, and the campaign has pulled in donations from all 50 states and Washington, D.C., with California as the top contributing state, followed by Ohio.

According to the campaign, Turner also has received contributions from every ZIP code in the 11th Congressional District, which reaches from Cleveland to Akron.

Brown, a county council member and chair of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, has collected endorsements from many local elected Democrats and construction labor unions. More than half of her contributions have come from Northeast Ohio, according to the campaign. https://www.ideastream.org/news/nina-turner-raises-22-million-for-congressional-campaign

We do well in conversation sensing sarcasm. However, without tone of voice, facial expressions, or other cues in posts it its difficult to know if a post is meant to be sarcastic. As a frequent users of sarcasm, I have learned to include "To the extent needed, ."

It is a violation of the rules to personally attack Democratic figures, even those with whom we disagree. Questioning the veracity of a Democratic figure is a personal attack. If the rule applies to President Biden, it also applies to other public figures who identify themselves as Democrats.

You guys never talk about either candidate’s policies. So you like Brown’s love of Israel despite Israel bombing apts and killing babies in their beds and demolishing the press building over the suffering of the Palestine people - then I guess Shantell Brown is your person.

110. This is also what she said, which are we to believe:

Nina Turner, a co-chair of the Sanders campaign, told me she has no appetite for the choice she faces: “It’s like saying to somebody, ‘You have a bowl of shit in front of you, and all you’ve got to do is eat half of it instead of the whole thing.’ It’s still shit.”

161. Seems Shontel Brown has some questionable actions as council member

When Shontel Brown was running for her seat on Cuyahoga County Council in 2014, she responded to questions about her links to the family of a major contractor by promising to “recuse herself from county contracts with ties to Mark Perkins as necessary.” Perkins, Brown’s partner, has longstanding ties to the Cleveland-based general contractor Perk.

On February 28, 2017, Brown deemed recusal unnecessary and voted with her colleagues to give a nearly $7 million contract to Perk. Ten weeks later, one of the firm’s owners helped organize a fundraiser that bankrolled a significant portion of her reelection campaign, making an in-kind donation of $2,000 at a fundraiser for Brown that netted her over $7,000, a significant sum in the low-budget world of Cleveland-area council races. In total, she has approved more than $17 million to Perk and has received $13,000 in campaign donations from the Perkins family and Perk’s current owners, the Cifani family.

Besides the $7 million contract in 2017, Brown also voted on three other occasions to approve Cuyahoga city contracts for Perk, totaling an additional $10 million between 2015 and 2019. And in August 2020, she voted in favor of contracts of $1.875 million to two firms, one headed by Mark Perkins’s sister and a second whose former vice president is another family member of Perkins. Perk and McTech, a company owned by Mark Perkins, are frequent and longtime business associates.

Perk was co-founded by Charles Perkins, the uncle of Brown’s longtime partner Mark. Perk’s current owners, the Cifani family, have been generous supporters of her campaigns for office. Brown received campaign contributions from the Perkins and Cifani families in her low-budget campaigns for county council and, before that, for city council in the Cleveland suburb of Warrensville Heights, where both she and her mentor, Marcia Fudge, got their political starts.

Yikes. That's the kind of stuff we normally chastise the GOP for.

It was a simple oversight.

If you don't like that source, perhaps the Cleveland Plain Dealer

Shontel Brown must resign as Cuyahoga County Democratic Party chair
Updated Feb 19, 2021; Posted Feb 19, 2021

The Democratic Party wields enormous political power in Cuyahoga County, often deciding elections with its endorsements, when voters go armed into polling places with the party card of preferred candidates. But Shontel Brown, as chair of the county party, and buttressed by a leadership group loyal to her, exercises even greater power to pick intraparty winners and losers.

By controlling the party’s apparatus, Brown and her leadership team have the biggest say in which candidates get the backing, the money, the time and the endorsements of local labor and elected officials. They can influence, as well, who has the biggest “ins” with precinct clubs and other voter groups.

That’s why Brown must step down immediately as chair of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party in light of her long-announced candidacy for Congress.

She should have done so months ago -- as soon as she said in early December that she was running to replace her mentor, U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge, in Ohio’s 11th Congressional District. Fudge is the Biden administration’s choice as U.S. secretary of housing and urban development.

Fudge’s gold-plated Democratic district picks up parts of Greater Cleveland and Akron, so the Democratic primary field to replace her is already large and could get larger, since whoever wins the Democratic primary will almost certainly win the seat.

In deciding the winner of that Democratic primary contest, the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party chair will play a large role.

Brown is already doing so now -- improperly, in her own favor.

119. You are supporting only one Democrat, not two

The other person you are supporting is not a Democrat. She is a person who has been openly hostile to Democrats and has worked against us but is running in the Democratic primary AGAINST a Democrat.

It's funny that you referred to "hating someone you don't know." I never said anything about hate. I just pointed out that you have decided to support someone in a race you probably know very little about because one person you like supports them without having a clue about the person she's running against or whether she'd be better than the candidate you've decided to send money to.

And then you bragged about it as if that's something to be proud of instead of something representative of the kind of lemming-like behavior we laugh at when engaged in by clueless, uniformed people on the other side.

Fortunately, Democrats in Cleveland are more discerning and aren't likely to be fooled into supporting the opportunist in Democratic clothing solely because a Congresswoman from California likes her for some reason.

273. For the GOP who want to suppress the vote of true or real Democrats

Russia used a number of tools in 2016 including promoting sanders to depress Democratic voter turnout. The release of the hacked emails and other materials by Russia/wikileakes helped depress turnout or to help Jill Stein. The GOP will use this material if Nina is the nominee to depress the turnout of normal or regular democrats.

A vote for Jill Stein was a vote for trump. Nina helped to elect trump in 2016 by campaigning for and voting for Stein

Just Us Democrats are only able to win in deep blue districts and cannot win in competitive districts. The GOP will be able to use these materials to make this race very competitive if Nina is the nominee

277. But her working to throw government to conservative ANTI-progressives

in 2016 had huge impact we're still in great danger from. There's a tremendous dissonance between what she said she's for and what she did. She flipped from supporting progressive policies to actively helping to defeat the party determined to enact those policies and elect those who promised to destroy them.

Now she insists she's back to supporting, but she still shows all the same signs and behaviors of 2015-2020.

Instability of purpose and extreme, dysfunctional reactions are a common pattern on the far left and right.

Also extremely common is turning and attacking their own ideological ankle when it offends them. That's why that third party they're trying to form will eventually self destruct even if they briefly get it off the ground, as has happened a few times over the past century.

Why should actual members of the Democratic Party vote for someone who helped the former guy win in 2016 and who attacked out nominee in 2020?

BTW why should someone who is a founding member of a third party and who is a member of the Just Us Democrats be the nominee of the party? Should the nominee of the party be a real member of the Democratic Party?

We don't need this kind of rhetoric in our congress. She may be running as a Dem...the only way she can run in our primary for money and media. She has said outright that she is not a Dem and voted Jill Stein. She claims The new Peoples Party as her own.

This is not who we are, so much explosive anger is not healthy for this nation.

Also hilarious is how someone who promoted Jill Stein and helped form a new third party and called Job Biden a bowl of shit, refused to vote for the Democratic presidential candidates because they're just as bad as Republicans, is now a nice regular Democrat. Still don't know what the hell is "neoliberal" about the Democratic Party.

263. How will a non-member of the party hope to win a special election contest w/o help from Biden?

The thesis/premise of this thread is that contrary to all evidence, Nina is supposed to be a member of the Democratic Party solely based on the endorsement of another member of the Just Us Democrat faction. If Nina become the nominee of the party, she will need help from Biden and the party to win a general election contest in a special election contest. You do understand that special elections are low turnout elections and a candidate who is not on good terms with the most popular member of the party will have issues winning a special election in the real world.

I have a feeling that the nominee of the party will be better off having Joe Biden campaign for her compared to having a Just Us Democrat from California campaigning for her.

It is important that we win this special election and I hope that our nominee will be able to campaign with help from the party and not rely solely on Just Us Democrats.

264. Methinks she's a reluctant "Democrat"....

It’s official! Sen. Nina Turner is running for Congress. She’s running for the seat vacated by Rep. Marcia Fudge, who Joe Biden has chosen as secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The People’s Party isn’t on the ballot in Ohio yet so she will have to run as a Democrat, but we can’t think of anyone better to win that seat and bring a friend of the People’s Party to Congress.

https://peoplesparty.org/nina-turner-congress/

So apparently she's not interested in bringing a DEMOCRAT to Congress, but a "friend of the People's Party"!!!

On the other hand we have the most accomplished Democrat who DID attend the event today:

her judgment is.

I don't think she pays attention to what's going on with our Democracy & President Biden now.. seems too bitter to see the reality.

270. So she's expanded beyond the bowl of shit and you have to eat half of it to TWO bowls of shit and...

....you have to eat one of them. At least that interview with The Atlantic wasn't a one-time deal, she actually believes that.

And last year's election was a choice between a "neo-fascist" and a "neo-liberal"? I suspect she doesn't know what the prefix "neo" really means, but she sure likes to put that in front of words, even if it doesn't really mean anything in the real world.

That one wants to be our nominee in November instead of this woman?
