Manhattan's district attorney has convened the grand jury that is expected to decide whether to indict former president Donald Trump, other executives at his company or the business itself should prosecutors present the panel with criminal charges, according to two people familiar with the development.
The panel was convened recently and will sit three days a week for six months. It is likely to hear several matters not just the Trump case during the duration of its term, which is longer than a traditional New York state grand-jury assignment, these people said. Like others, they spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation. Generally, special grand juries such as this one are convened to participate in long-term matters rather than to hear evidence of crimes charged routinely.
The move indicates that District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr.s investigation of the former president and his business has reached an advanced stage after more than two years. It suggests, too, that Vance believes he has found evidence of a crime if not by Trump then by someone potentially close to him or by his company.

As I keep saying ... Don't assume that just because you can't see the wheels working that they aren't turning.

(21,341 posts)the results of the grand jury start coming out. Maybe before. He will be getting reports from people called to testify so that he'll know some specific details on where the investigation is going.
Yes, I know that grand jury proceedings are secret and witnesses are not supposed to speak about their testimony and the questions asked. But they can be threatened and manipulated by the criminals under investigation.

(21,341 posts)for anything. Why would he start now? He has always arranged an escape for himself. I am sure that he hasa backup escape plan already set up. He will stick it out only long enough to see if he can bluster his way out, via political backing to protect him, or another coup to get absolute power. But if it looks reasonably certain that that won't work, he'll be out of of the US faster than you can say traitor coward.

(1,604 posts)...how do we (i.e., the SANE constituency within the nation) deal with the likelihood that the former guy--even if indicted--actually runs again and becomes the GOP nominee (to exploit the system and wriggle through the eye of the needle of the law)?
We all know that using, abusing and exploiting workers, women, and "the system" are the M.O. of this transnational crime syndicate and deplorable DJT entity...and I hope somebody with authority, power and influence is playing 3-D chess.
And time is of the essence. SLAM-DUNK these MFers!!!

When I asked my husband this he said it's obvious to everyone except his cult followers how guilty he is.
Mr.Bill
(24,240 posts)but Grand Juries don't always have 12 members, nor to they always require a unanimus opinion. For instance, I sat on a Civil Grand Jury of 19 jurors, and a decision required 12 votes, which in our case was considered a supermajority.
That being said, my initial reaction to the breaking news is oh, great, another year of investigation.

(6,785 posts)easily. Regular people there can't stand him. He's been annoying and a known criminal since the 80s. It's obvious he was mobbed up. Maybe Rudy Giuliani as the prosecutor for SDNY back then is why he never went to jail back then. Maybe all this will sweep up Rudy too.
The very last crime I wouldn't put past Trump and Family? JURY TAMPERING.

(21,528 posts)when a grand jury sees evidence, do they know who they are possibly indicting? Like, is it "drumpf did this and drumpf did that" or do they not use names... "individual 1 did this, individual 1 did that"... etc

(18,486 posts)Mr.Bill
(24,240 posts)is to evaluate the evidence to decide those things. But the DA will be leading them in the direction he thinks will produce indictments. There is no Defense or Judge in Grand Jury proceedings. The DA runs the show. The Grand Jury is basically deciding whether they agree with him or not.
