USPS raises stamp price to 58 cents as part of DeJoy's 10-year plan

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2021/05/28/usps-rate-hike-stamps/

The postmaster general’s plan calls for additional price increases on package products and slower mail service

The U.S. Postal Service is raising rates on letters, magazines and marketing missives as much as 6.9 percent this summer, sending the cost of a first-class stamp from 55 to 58 cents, as the agency leans into an expansive restructuring plan that codifies slower mail delivery and streamlines agency operations.

The rate structure announced Friday represents the latest installment of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s plan to erase a projected $160 billon in liabilities over the next decade. The agency has struggled for the better part of a year with inconsistent delivery service and soaring package volumes that have gridlocked its processing network. The Postal Service’s on-time delivery scores have not topped 90 percent since July 2020.

DeJoy’s 10-year “Delivering for America” plan, announced in March, calls for longer delivery windows, shorter post office hours and fewer staff. The agency sent out “reduction in force,” or layoff, notices to hundreds of management-level employees Friday morning.

Why are we letting a Tr**p appointee destroy USPS from within? What's going on?

It’s hard to believe. I have hundreds of forever stamps as does most Americans so the increase won’t be noticed by many at all.

but that does NOT excuse this Trumpian's plan to follow the long-held plan to privatize the USPS.
The USPS is to be a PUBLIC SERVICE, NOT a 'for-profit' wing of the RepubliQan Party.

From what I’ve read, he will still be ousted, but it may not be before the end of the year.

The USPS is wanting comments from the public about Dejoyless and his 10 year plan to help them oppose his drastic changes. The window of time to leave comments is right now..until early mid June

Email or call the US Postal Regulatory Commission...please. And, tell all your friends

May have been a parliamentary vote, but Schumer called for a voice vote and was pretty much the only one there.

owner of the general store mailed a bill to my parents for 5 cents I think the stamp was 3 cents. This was back before credit cards we told him to put it on the tab then paid him off on payday. Apparently if you didn't make the payment no matter how small he sent a notice.

THAT is exactly the way IQ45 (aka: the 'GREAT business genius!') operated: figuring it would cost his 'contractors' more to sue him rather than suffer the loss and move on. What a wonderful and inspirational "business model" he has provided to us......

Again, we must remember: the ultimate goal is to PRIVATIZE the USPS - get the 'government' out of it and allow 'big business' run it as a 'FOR PROFIT" service. Think about THIS, you "patriots" out there in the great distances from that "urban ugliness" - how much do you think you're gonna' have to pay to have something mailed to you when the 'service' is calculating mileage based on YOUR order?
Really? Who is going to want to provide YOU with ANY service at all, especially when they can only charge 58 cents per item sent?

Ben Franklin wanted it as a PUBLIC service - and for good reason: It was to be for the PUBLIC GOOD!!!!!

But then again, how long has it been since the RepubliQans cared about "the PUBLIC GOOD?"
