NBC NewsWASHINGTON The Senate is set to approve President Joe Biden's first judicial nominees this week, marking the start of an ambitious push to make an impact on the federal courts.
The Senate advanced the nomination of Julien Xavier Neals to be a district judge in New Jersey by a vote of 66-28 on Monday, setting up a final confirmation vote Tuesday.
Next up on Tuesday is Regina M. Rodriguez to be a district judge in Colorado.
The two were advanced in committee last month, along with three other nominees, including Ketanji Brown Jackson for the powerful U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

(26,721 posts)Trump/McConnell actually left quite a few unfilled and a new wave of retirements were announced right after Biden arrived.
But beyond that... judges/justices have to retire or pass away first. The last four years set recent records.

(18,973 posts)There are more Federal judges right now named by Obama than Trump. Before the end of Joe's first term the judiciary will be dominated by Obama, Clinton, and Biden named judges.
Trump got a ton of judges through for a 1 term President. But he still got less than Obama, Bush, or Clinton.
Out of 789 active Federal judges, Trump named 29% of them. Many Reagan, Bush 1, and Clinton judges were holding out so Trump wouldn't get to name their replacement.
