to clean up the justice department in the wake of the revelation that they were spying on him, his staff and potentially others? Is not it just a matter of firing anybody who was nominated by Trump ? Just fucking clean house.

(18,486 posts)Or will Adam Schiff be the next Democrat thrown under the bus because everything didn't get fixed in the last four months?

(7,615 posts)he was one of the targets. I am just really hoping that major reforms will be undertaken. Anybody remotely connected to this needs to be removed. As a matter of fact Schiff just said that the AG needs to clean house.

(18,486 posts)But they can't be done overnight.
It will probably take months just to sort out who's who in the various departments. That just takes time.
Trump fed his people into all areas of government, up and down the chain, both political and career appointees. One of the reasons I'm really glad that Biden was the nominee, as opposed to anyone else it could have been, is that he understands all of the intricacies of government and has been around long enough to know how complex it is and he knows who to put in these departments to start rooting out people who shouldn't be there and to start untangling and sorting out the mess Trump made.
But that is going to take a lot of time and effort, most of which will occur out of the public eye - AND it has to be done while they're actually trying to run the government.
This AIN'T easy ...

(14,893 posts)DOJ is full of non-political appointees who have a personal self-interest in defending those abusive and unethical practices, covering them up,etc. And not just their own bad actions, but the bad actions of others because they all rely on the institution as a whole to defend members of the institution against outsiders. The whole department is a steaming pile right now. I not just an issue of replacing political appointees.

(7,615 posts)anybody involved in unethical behavior has to be removed, career or not. It might be a bit harder because some will fight it.

(83,639 posts)The Goddess may have created the heavens and earth in six days then rested on the seventh, however it will take a hell of a lot longer to clean up the sewer left by trumpers.
We are always left to clean up their mess. Always and it has to be RIGHT this minute or else!
SMDH.

(7,615 posts)I just hope they go as fast as they can. The political appointees at least could be removed. It might take longer to root out career people who were tainted. An example of one appointee is the interior department IG who recently issued a report trying to minimize the Lafayette square incident. This guy is a Trump appointee.

(268,686 posts)I lived through a corrupt election financed from outside - you have no idea how they infect every institution and what it takes to get the stench out

(11,756 posts)contaminated. These investigations will be widespread and take a long time. The surface hasn't even been scratched yet as to the criminal activity that trump and his cronies have been up to, throughout every agency, for the last four years.

(115,584 posts)especially if they are Civil Service employees. I wouldn't be surprised if these are the people responsible for spying on reporters and members of Congress and their staffs, but the DoJ is huge and it will take awhile to find them. I should think they can be fired for doing shit like that even if they are Civil Service, but cleaning house in a large agency won't be instantaneous.
