double-lung transplant regrets not getting vaccine

Full headline
A man who spent 4 months in hospital with COVID-19 and ended up with a double-lung transplant said he regrets not getting the vaccine

https://news.yahoo.com/man-spent-4-months-hospital-150724636.html

A man who spent four months battling coronavirus in hospital and almost died from the virus said he regretted not getting a coronavirus vaccine.

Garza told CNN that he ended up days away from dying, but got the transplant in April.

Garza urged other people to get the vaccine.

"Think about your family. Because what I went through, I had to put my family through, also," he said.
"I wish people would at least reconsider, or at least listen to what we went through, and hopefully you never have to go through that - ever."
CNN noted that Garza has diabetes and high blood pressure, conditions that make him particularly vulnerable to the virus and that gave him earlier access to the vaccine.

Who were telling you what you are now telling others . If you didnt listen to others what makes you think others will listen to you?

Josh Garza, 43, told CNN that he didn't get a vaccine because he thought he could avoid getting infected by following health measures, and because he was worried about its safety.

I wonder if this is revisionist history and the real reason had more to do with TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP and FREEDUM and I ain't no lib p******

That would sound real stupid now so it's now "following health measures, and because he was worried about its safety."

Jesus' story about the rich man and Lazarus ends like this:

22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

But there is so much wrong to find when using Biblical text that it makes it nul to me.

Looking at this text I'd ask,

1. Why would God allow Abraham to answer a sinner burning in Hell? Why would He even listen to anyone there? Haven't those that are now in Hell lost all rights to even ask God for favours? And is he implying that Abraham has God like powers too? Thats gotta be some kind of blasphemy.

2. The over generalization. As if Lazarus always received "bad things" and no good things ever, and the rich man was the complete opposite of that. And so now Lazarus deserves "comfort" that the rich man got, who will now will be tormented to make up for it. But FOREVER??? Is that really fair? If the beggar spent say 40 years before dying, suffering from his circumstances on Earth, (that frankly the rich man had not much to do with), how is an eternity of being burned alive any kind of reciprocal punishment?

3. How presumptuous of God. To throw back this persons desparate plea, a very Christian plea in that he is looking out for others, with a "meh". And the absurdity of saying that if his family did not take the words from some crazy preacher talking about some invisible God, that they'd NEVER believe it if an actual dead person showed up at their door and told them it was all true. I think even I may just be convinced with that kind of evidence.

I'd also invite you to read some books on Christian Testament exegesis. A good start would be Michael F. Bird and N.T. Wright's "The New Testament in Its World: An Introduction to the History, Literature, and Theology of the First Christians."

I was brought up in a strict evangelical house. I know exactly how preachers exaggerate some things in the Bible and ignore other more embarrassing verses. I know all the contradictions in the Bible. So I have a good basis for my rebellion.

I've had to go eighteen rounds with anti-vaxxers right here on DU who smugly assure the rest of us that they don't need a vaccine (this usually happens right around flu season when the year's influenza immunization goes into distribution), because they wash their hands and avoid touching possibly contaminated surfaces.

It's a shame that they refuse to acknowledge that immunization counts as a "health measure".

It says he got the lung transplant after 4 months in the hospital. That would mean he caught the virus in December, which was when the vaccines were just starting to become available. It sounds like maybe he wanted to wait a while to make sure the vaccine was safe. There's nothing in the article to indicate that he was an anti-vaxxer, COVID-denier or conspiracy nut. Maybe he was, I don't know, but I'm not going to rush to judge him without more information.

Lung transplants can take a long time just finding suitable lungs. With co-morbidities he was at a higher risk for an already high-risk surgery and high risk for functionality over the long haul.

All over a shot that saves lives. All over a virus and vaccine that were stupidly politicized.

Insane.
