Boy taunted in online video about sexuality is in protective custody, Georgia cops say

https://www.macon.com/news/nation-world/national/article252286248.html

A 12-year-old boy is in protective custody after a homophobic attack that was filmed live on social media, according to Georgia authorities.

The child was removed from his mother’s home in Atlanta and is now in the care of officials with the Georgia Division of Family & Children’s Services, the Atlanta Police Department said Monday.

Authorities stepped in after social media video showed the boy being verbally and physically ridiculed, sparking outcry. The word “gay” also appeared to be shaved into the side of his head, according to clips of the video reposted by LGBTQ outlet Gaye Magazine. (Warning: video contains strong language)

Authorities are investigating reports that “the suspect in the case was the [boy’s] 18 year old sibling,” according to an incident report obtained my McClatchy News.

So glad he's been removed from this abusive envirnoment.

The article doesn't speak of any such charges, but it does refer to his 18 year brother as a "suspect".

That video made my blood boil. What a bunch of fucking scumbags. Apart from the homophobic bullshit they were spouting, that jackwagon was slapping around a kid who's half his size, and the mother encouraged it. Absolutely deplorable.

How ironic it will be if the 18 year old, adult brother goes to prison and gets treated like a “pretty boy”.

The follow up video is basically a hostage video. Before he was removed from the home. I am guessing seeing all the backlash against them on social media, they had him make a video saying that he was not abused, you don't know what you are doing to my family. Its hurting THEM. They were just trying to TEACH me.

That child should not be returned to that home. Not until everyone in that home receives long term counseling and the abusers charged criminally. I hope there is a loving family member or friend that is willing to care for him.
My heart breaks for him. I've read that he has been anxious about being removed from the home. As so many abuse victims, he may now feel responsible for punishment of his abusers.
I hope he gets all the support he needs.

even after counseling. That child had a seriously traumatic experience and should not ever have to live with the perpetrators again, for the sake of his own mental health and recovery.

When I was a volunteer Big Sister, the Little Sister assigned to me went through some really bad abuse in her home that I was able to report on and provide evidence for in a court case. The child was in foster care for a while, then returned to her family after "family counseling" sessions. They just developed more creative, less detectable ways to abuse her and her siblings.

Meantime, due to family hostility to me for providing evidence, I had to give up my role as Big Sister, leaving the child with almost no outside protection. She eventually ran away in her teens, but reconnected with me later, on her own.

Do not send children back to abusive families, no matter how much "counseling" they get.

Far too many young boys (gay and straight) have been traumatized by this mentality. It’s sickening. Tragic beyond all measure.
