South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem sends 50 National Guard troops to Texas - privately funded

I just went looking around Fox News

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/south-dakota-kristi-noem-troops-texas-tackle-border-crisis

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem on Tuesday announced that her state is sending dozens of National Guard troops to Texas to help the Lone Star State deal with the continuing crisis at the southern border, after an appeal for help from Gov. Greg Abbott.

Noem announced that 50 South Dakota National Guard troops would be sent to Texas to secure the border between the U.S. and Mexico. Her office said the deployment will last for between 30 and 60 days, and that it will be paid for via a private donation.

South Dakota is the latest state to respond to that appeal from Arizona and Texas. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced this month that his state would send 50 law enforcement officers to help tackle the surge.

In a press conference, DeSantis said that mission funding was still a "point of discussion."

"Typically, if someone would help us, you know, we would pick up some of their funding and so that is how we would hope that it goes," the governor said. "But we do not anticipate getting any federal funds."

Who pays? The soldier signed up as a state employee, essentially. Now, they are being hired out to a private entity, essentially working as private sector security guards.

but if one of these troops paid for by a private donation accidentally or incorrectly shoots someone, wouldn't that open the private funders to civil liability?

If a foundation from Tennessee can pay to have Federally paid and outfitted troops to go from one state to another, then "Governor" Norm has just made the SDNG a private army.

The Pentagon must act and cut all funding for those 50, their supporting units, and that operation immediately.

Let her raise up, pay, and supply her own group of swaggering wannabes to send out for cash. Private funding = mercenaries, and that isn't what the National Guard is supposed to be.

to help with the phony border "crisis." Wondering about the technical legalities of all this for sure, but I am absolutely sure these giant political PR stunts are both lawless and completely unprincipled.
