President Biden is in Surfside, Florida, today to console n get information on the collapse of the high rise condos. He is somber, trying to tell the community hes 100% behind them in their grief n will put all resources for them. Then..the press has questions..what are your thoughts about the indictments... What do you think about .. I am all for the free press but.. is this the time or place to ask politics? Isnt this insensitive? Who sends them there to ask such questions? This just irks me..not just this occasion but all the time. These questions have nothing to do with the venue. Is it just me or is this just too much? Biden should say..Ill get back with you on that n shun them. What say you?

(18,486 posts)I could see if Biden was normally inaccessible and non-responsible and the press felt it had to grab every opportunity to it has to ask him what they need to ask him. But they'll have - and know they'll have - plenty of chances to ask him about other things, so it seems to me, as it does to you, that this was inappropriate.

(9,885 posts)What passes for "news" and "journalism" - sadly right OR left - is nothing more than attempts to grab ratings...
Why is our press so bifurcated? Easy answer - what's the simplest, least effort involved way to capture eyes and clicks? Give people exactly what they WANT to hear...or conversely, play up anything that they HATE or can be made to hate with ease.
Easy, 30 second "reports" followed by 5 minutes of 'expert' analysis and then 3 minutes of sponsor's messages is a hallmark of damn near every show on cable 'news' and also what passes for informed political commentary in far, far too many cases.
Partisan stupidity sells.

(53,410 posts)Im really beginning to think that. If the media would just shut up about Trump we would all forget about him, which is what he deserves.

(16,644 posts)From their point of view, they have very little direct access to Biden. As such, whenever they get it, they have to ask ANY questions they have.

(22,177 posts)for the stupid questions they were asking back then? The Washington Post, the LA Times and the NY Times tend to ask and report more substantial questions.
