The stinging shot Obama aimed at Romney that no one is talking about

Last edited Thu Oct 18, 2012, 11:01 AM - Edit history (1)

My favorite question from the audience was a woman who inquired of Romney could he assure her that if elected he would be different from George W. Bush*. Romney made some mealy-mouthed response, but Obama landed a punch on Romney's chin.

(Paraphrasing) There are differences between Mr. Romney and George W. Bush. Bush did not want to voucherize Medicare, he was better on immigration reform, and Bush never proposed defunding Planned Parenthood.

I consider Obama's response a true verbal assault on Romney, because in my opinion, there is nothing worse than being compared to George W. Bush* and pale in that comparison. What a heck of an insult, but executed so beautifully.

I absolutely loved it.

I have been here for 10 years, and I came here ranting and raving about George W. Bush*. There is no one I despise more. And for Obama to compare Romney to Bush, with Bush coming off better, was simply priceless. I wish I knew where to write that woman to thank her for that question....

60. little boots gave the people "big pharma screw the elderly bill"

which increased the deficit, gave a windfall to big pharma and the donut hole to the elderly who can't afford it. little boots and his band of merry, corrupt con artists attempted to privatize SS, so WS could even scam more of our money.

however, at this point economically, if robme is elected he'll attempt to privatize the shite out of the government for his corrupt, sociopathic friends; i mean after all, government doesn't create jobs. i'd say, robme is little boots II, with randian ryan, and would probably turn the country into a corporate feudalistic state.

And that is pointing out that nearly all of Rmoneys staff and advisors are the same old Bush cronies that screwed up this country. If you want to relive the nightmare of the Bush years on steroids then Mitt Rmoney is your man.

5. From transcript:

But the last point I want to make is this. You know, there are some things where Governor Romney’s different from George Bush. George Bush didn’t propose turning Medicare into a voucher. George Bush embraced comprehensive immigration reform. He didn’t call for self-deportation. George Bush never suggested that we eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood.

So there are differences between Governor Romney and George Bush, but they’re not on economic policy. In some ways, he’s gone to a more extreme place when it comes to social policy, and I think that’s a mistake. That’s not how we’re going to move our economy forward.

Well probably not, she just lived those years and remembers had bad they were.

Romney damn sure didn't want to be compared to Bush, he pretended with his answers that Bush nor his policies ever existed, with Romney everything that's bad or negative began "four years ago" under Obama.

So I was most pleased with that question from the lady in the audience.

74. favorite moments

I had to work until 9 last night and didn't get to my car until some time after. The first thing I heard when I turned the debate on was the President saying (and I'm paraphrasing) "Most of what Mr. Romney just said simply isn't true."

I said to noone in particular (since I was alone) "Thank you!"

81. That is pretty funny

I think we Dems needed as many laughs as we could get. It has been aggravating that the Republicans get away with wholesale lying every day, and most commentators do not correct them.

Thank you for posting on my thread.

76. IMO all of Obama's answers were prepared

and that's not to slight them in any way.

He had done his homework, and they were executed beautifully.

That's how great lawyers win tough court cases.
