Mayo Clinic expert warns delta variant will infect everyone who is not immune

“Don’t be deceived that ‘I got this far and I am OK.’ This is a very different variant. It will find you,” Gregory Poland of the Mayo Clinic said.

“This virus will find everybody who is not immune,” he added.

A top expert on vaccinations is urging Americans to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as the number of new infections fueled by the highly contagious delta variant continues to rise in the U.S.

“I think there is no question that we are going to see a surge,” Gregory Poland of the Mayo Clinic told CBS 4 Minnesota Tuesday.

The doctor said he still wears a mask when out in public when he’s “in a crowded scenario,” whether it be indoors or outdoors.

He noted that Minnesota, like many other parts of the country, are experiencing a rise in cases as delta continues to circulate, and he’s seeing cases of severe disease and hospitalization among younger people.

“Don’t be deceived that ‘I got this far and I am OK.’ This is a very different variant. It will find you,” he told CBS 4.

with Covid are asking for vaccines from the health care professionals. Too bad they didn't listen to science and not the GQP.

how people can be so willfully in denial. I really think the Republicans’ internal polls and projections are showing this Delta trend which is why so many are changing their tune. They are a callous bunch.

They want to be on the right side of facts but only for the election.

We all here want to be informed. I’m very grateful for all the people posting articles giving data from various parts of the country.

Stay safe!

Has been hesitating because of his fear of needles. I have been working on him since he became eligible to get vaxxed. I think I finally got to him in the last week, I made dinner for him and we watched a couple news programs on MSNBC, which he's never seen before but liked it. Two segments on the virus really made him think about it and yesterday I told him that he really needs to just fucking man up and get the damned vaccine so he won't die from it. He finally agreed that he should get it done. I will keep after him until he actually does it.

Who exhibits vaccine hesitancy (if the opportunity presents itself).

I have a prized assistant who hadn’t taken it so I had a heart to heart with her and told her the operation we run together would likely fall apart if she got COVID. That did the trick and next thing I knew she, her husband, and son and daughter-in-law had all gotten the shot.

Several mentions of the need to keep wearing masks since we can all still get it. I told him that I can still get it, even though fully vaxxed, and I am terrified of needles too, nut if I did I wouldn't be hospitalized or die from it but he most likely would because he isn't vaxxed. He's not stupid most of the time so I am willing to work on his mindset.

And yeah, I know the window of "not there yet" is six weeks but I wasn't going to talk about that, he'll chicken out for longer.

I think petrified would be a better description.

Back in the early spring, he asked me to get him an appointment. Floored, I did.
He asked me to haul him to said appointments. So, I did.
He bravely and determinedly walked directly in and got his shots... Ahead of schedule by a few minutes. I watched.

I called him to ask if he had experienced any side effects. He calmly relayed he didn't notice any.

Knowing his history and what I saw him do. I have a difficult time accepting anyone using fear as an excuse to not be vaccinated.

I'm glad you broke through to your friend, 2naSalit. You may have saved a life.

He thinks I'm a pretty tough girl and I told him I am terrified of needles and dentists but I made myself get oral surgery, and have some coming up, but I was less terrified of those than the alternatives. And the "man up" part hit him where it hurts. He works with lots of vulnerable people, once I explained, again, how even I could give it to him and he could pass it around and not know it, he started rethinking it.

I'm glad he's finally getting it, geeze. I hate it when people make me turn into a freaking nag!

So much so, I had to sit there and chuckle to myself.

I was proud. He took the responsibility.

Nag away! I for one approve.

He's lucky to have a friend like you. A relative had espoph cancer a few years ago: during treatment had 3 ER trips to ICU, on a vent for pneumonia twice. Made it through.
