Newt: I crossed the line...

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Newt Gingrich signaled Wednesday that he believes his criticism of Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital is a mistake — and that he’s created an impression that he was echoing Democratic rhetoric.

Gingrich conceded the problem when pressed by a Rick Santorum supporter at a book signing here Wednesday.

“I’m here to implore one thing of you. I think you’ve missed the target on the way you’re addressing Romney’s weaknesses. I want to beg you to redirect and go after his obvious disingenuousness about his conservatism and lay off the corporatist versus the free market. I think it’s nuanced,” said Dean Glossop, an Army Reservist from Inman, S.C.

“I agree with you,” Gingrich said. “It’s an impossible theme to talk about with Obama in the background. Obama just makes it impossible to talk rationally in that area because he is so deeply into class warfare that automatically you get an echo effect. … I agree with you entirely.”

Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond issued a statement from the campaign Wednesday afternoon that pushed back on the reports of Gingrich moving away from his criticism of Bain.

practice of saying one thing in public while doing the opposite in private. What will be interesting is if the SuperPac doesn't put out the ads from the 28 minute video they had said they would, could that be collusion between the Gingrich campaign and the SuperPac which is illegal? We shall see, gotta love the circular firing squad the repubs have set up for themselves, lol.

Newt is following Rove's playbook....be bloviates about how he wants to run a nice campaign and scolds everyone else for negativity, then the 'PAC' releases the Romney movie. I am enthralled when Newt speaks; he's a genius at projection.

Seems to me there's a whole lot of politicians who haven't kept up with the technological revolution, who don't get it that they are no longer the sole holder of facts and information, and that each of us can source the quotes they use.

Newt and others of his generation are being left in the dust by people who are more agile with the touch pad. Soon he'll just be another asterix in the history books, he who would have been the maker of history.

If I remember correctly, there is a regulation that prevents a candidate from directly coordinating with their shadow-PACs.

It's clear the Republicans have already violated those rules--apparently many of the PACs are headed by former campaign officials from the candidates the PACs support. But I don't think any of us seriously expected the GOP to take any route other than the criminal one.

....of the rich Mormon and wall street is now being felt by some of the pukes for speaking what everyone knows, the truth!

"And crony capitalism, where people pay each other off at the expense of the rest of the country, is not free enterprise," Gingrich said.

"I know the difference between venture capital[ism] and vulture capitalism," Perry said.

Obama makes it impossible to speak rationally?

newt has been speaking irrationally for the full 30+ years I've seen him in politics.

The rethugs are so in love with the teabagger movement that they can't possibly speak rationally this year.

It's nice to see newt finally say something with a trace of veracity, though.

PEACE!
