Democratic COVID vax-deniers

Yesterday someone posted on here that they had a die hard liberal friend who won't get the COVID vaccine because they believe in their plants and herbs....and rocks and things (fans of the band America, will know what I did there)!

But I'm just curious....does your friend, at the very least, go everywhere indoors, wearing a mask? Do they wear a mask outdoors or at least socially distance while outdoors? I would hope if they're not going to get the vaccine, they would at least take these basic precautions to help reduce transmission

Anyone else have liberal friends not getting the vaccine? Are they taking the basic precautions to help to try and not increase transmission and to try not to lead to more variants??

One of the main factors driving differences in COVID-19 vaccination rates across the country is partisanship. Our surveys consistently find that Democrats are much more likely to report having been vaccinated than Republicans, and Republicans are much more likely to say that they definitely do not want to get vaccinated. In May, just as vaccine supply was starting to outstrip demand, we examined average vaccination rates by county and found that rates were lower in counties that voted for Trump in the 2020 Presidential election compared to those that voted for Biden. Now, two months later, we find that not only does this remain the case, the gap has grown.

And, though Black and Latino people were hesitant at the beginning to get the vaccine, those not vaccinating early were seldom in the "no I'll never get it" camp. More in the "let me see how it shakes out for a few months" camp. That is born out by the fact that the share of Black and Latino people getting the vaccine has increased significantly month over month.

Between March 1 and July 19, the share of vaccinations going to Hispanic people increased in all states reporting data for both periods and increased for Black people in most reporting states. In a few cases, these increases were large. For example, the share of vaccinations going to Black people increased from 26% to 43% in DC and from 25% to 37% in Mississippi. Similarly, the share of vaccinations going to Hispanic people increased by at least 10 percentage points in six states, including Florida (17% to 30%), Nevada (13% to 25%), California (19% to 30%), New Jersey (6% to 17%), Texas (23% to 35%), and New York (9% to 19%). The share of vaccinations going to Asian people also increased in most states reporting data for both periods, while it fell for White people in most reporting states.

Those who are simply anti-vax, as opposed to those who waited to see if the vaccine was safe, are mostly republiQan.

2. I live outside Boulder Colorado...

Most people I know (friends and acquaintances) are on the left side of the spectrum, though those on the right are here as well. The only ones I know who have not gotten the vaccine are the few maga nuts. I'm certain there are those who have not gotten it but I do not know any. Also, I still see a lot of people masking... I do.

3. Every single liberal I know, as well as a couple of not idiot repugs, have gotten vaccinated.

Even my son who has no transportation and spends all of his time working at a low paying job and riding the bus and walking, finally got his first vaccination 2 weeks ago and his 2nd one scheduled. He has some issues with social anxiety so hates talking to strangers about things he needs and just couldn't bring himself to walk the mile to the pharmacy. He'd get scheduled, then work would call him and he'd go in and break his appt. He was however wearing a mask when in public and at work. So glad he finally complied with the vaccination!!

BTW - even the repugs I know who don't repudiate science are now pissed at the non-vaxxers.

6. There's political liberal, and then there's alternative liberal...

Alternative Liberal tends to be, frankly, more of a lifestyle - hippy/magical thinking/natural-pathetic - than a political stance. Some are even Republicans - or most likely Libertarians.
So yes, you can have Liberal Anti-vaxxers. And they can also be pretty strident about it.

7. I feel...

I feel it's mostly republicans who have not been vaccinated but for the democrats who decided nor to vaccinate, they at least I think care enough about their fellow man to go indoors, masked up! When do the deplorable faction of the Republicans ever think about their fellow man??! That's why they have no qualms about going indoors anywhere, unmasked, even if they're unvaccinated!

8. I have a super-liberal anti-vaxer friend

He's so bad that he won't even vaccinate his 3 year old daughter. She's never had one shot. He's liberal across the board too, and hates Trump.
