How do you get the foxes out of the henhouse if they can fight subpoenas?

I think it should be a rule that no Congress person should be able to serve as a lawmaker if they are fighting a subpoena that has to do with getting to the bottom of an attack on Congress.

It doesn't make sense to allow people who are possibly trying to overthrow our government to keep working in government.

Is it dependent on the DOJ to enforce them?

5. It isn't that they don't have teeth

It’s that using those teeth is time-consuming. You can’t create a panel one day and have everyone you want forced to appear a week later.

This is particularly true in the case of Congress which has less-useful “teeth” for this type of inquiry.

...by constitutional amendment, and that's damn near impossible to accomplish in the foreseeable future.

When it comes to Congressional oversight, I'd cut the length of any appeal of a subpoena to maybe two weeks, or a month at most. The courts would be obligated, of course, to expedite their handling of these cases.

The legal benefit of the doubt would always go to Congress, and the Sergeant at Arms would have the authority to physically haul someone's ass into hearings as needed if they fail to cooperate.

No more "playing out the clock".

Remember that Ernesto Miranda was guilty of rape and kidnapping a teenager. But it would have been wrong to say “how do we get rid of criminals like this if he can challenge a confession?”

esp if there is evidence that they are involved.

How many in the GOP would get their undies twisted over that?
