(6,178 posts)..... the insurrection mob out of the building. With no spare hands to manage arrested individuals.
tRump and tRump alone was responsible for the lack of additional help.
But I get your point. It is too bad that all of those that enter the build using violence were not arrested on the spot.

(8,327 posts)The people who were arrested yesterday came as part of a non - violent protest and with the intent of getting arrested. The violent insurrectionists who came on 1/6 came to do harm and they did, the police were fighting for their lives. There is no comparison

(4,393 posts)but can't find it now, sorry, of two or three cops trying to arrest one guy that they thought had a gun and they were swarmed by 30 or 40 rioters and had to let him go.
They were so outnumbered, I think they were just trying to avoid getting knocked to their feet and dragged into the crowd.

(26,727 posts)Hundreds have been arrested and charged and quite a number of them have/will spend time in jail/prison.
By contrast - Jackson and Barber intended to get arrested
likely will spend no time in jail
and will very likely see their charges dropped.

(867 posts)You seem to suggest it's okay no one was arrested Jan 6 because they didn't intend to get arrested. Really?

(26,727 posts)The OP attempts to claim that authorities don't take 1/6 seriously but overreacted to a simple voting rights protest.
The reality is that the 1/6 riots have been taken very seriously and there would have been no authority response at all to the protest of civil rights leaders if those leaders didn't intend to get arrested.
Nowhere did I suggest that it was ok not to arrest anyone on 1/6... partly because scores of people were, in fact, arrested that day.

(58,785 posts)Race was not the one big defining difference between these events and how they were handled (and not!).
One was an attempt by traitors to turn our nation over to a RW dictator, for god's sake, and they're still at it.
I think we should question the constant spinning of this enormous threat to our entire nation into the black grievance narrative. Why is this so pervasive?
Is portraying all the RW attacks on our democracy as mainly a problem for black people part of the RW strategy for taking over? Insidious plotting or just fortuitous, it sure can't be hurting.

(3,624 posts)terrorist thugs with weapons making death threats. The priority in real time was to get them off of the premises so things could be secured. But they collected all the evidence and have been going after them in a way they don't usually bother in the aftermath of more peaceful protests, even if they do harass and arrest the peaceful protestors in real time. it's more a matter of logistics than intent.

(14,860 posts)...Warnock, the Ebenezer Baptist Church pastor, was arrested on the spot when he led a prayer in the Capitol Rotunda that year. He and other religious leaders were protesting healthcare cuts in President Donald Trump's proposed budget....

(21,550 posts)fighting just to live, and protecting elected leaders from being executed. They didn't have the time or manpower to be putting people in cuffs and driving them off. Please don't imply that people walked away from the capital on 1/6 because of their race because that distorts the events of that day and is NOT why they got to go home that night.
And besides in the long run people like Jackson and his fellow protestors are going to do a LOT better than the terrorists. The FBI operation to bring the terrorists down is one of the largest investigation and arrest campaigns in the history of this country.

(26,727 posts)But scores more were arrested by Metropolitan Police... with 55 being charged by the next day according to reporting at the time.
Since then, of course, several hundred have been arrested and charged.
