I see that the Senate has whittled its bill down to 550 billion dollars gutting many Democratic initiatives. The scaled down bill will probably pass the Senate today but I see no way in hell the House will approve it. If the Senate bill had to get scaled down to 550 billion I see no way a 3 trillion+ House bill gets passed. I have no inside info just logic. I have seen the Republican strategy and it is delay, delay, delay, obstruct, obstruct, obstruct.
I hope to hell I am wrong. Maybe the House will surrender its bill for the 550 billion dollar bill but Speaker Pelosi says the 2 bills must be linked together. Good luck.

(18,973 posts)It's a 1$ Trillion bill with some of the biggest investments in infrastructure in our nation's history. It's a fantastic bill and has a ton of great things in it. This is a huge win for the country and a show that big things can get done through bipartisanship still, it's $1 Trillion bigger than the infrastructure Bill that Trump got passed...
Now the $3.5 Trillion spending Bill is a much bigger deal and will be hard to get done this week, but I still think it will pass, but it will be a little smaller, probably under $3 Trillion.
It's a huge deal that Biden was able to get Dems and Reps to come together for such an important piece of legislation. People downplaying it sound like Trump supporters who would be mad if Reps worked with Dems on anything.

(22,594 posts)The Debbie and Donnie Downers, (and all their kinfolk) plus the naysayers aren't even trying to be subtle anymore.
One can set their watch by the punctual appearance of the negative comments they espouse with inevitable regularity. Not unlike the workings of a colonoscopy prep but not as pleasant, though more predictable.
It's not unusual to find them showing up halfway through a thread with their contrairian commentary. It's like they see it as a calling. Like they're ordained by ethereal gods, claiming sacred words and visions have been spoken to them in the woods as a commandment to exist in eternal agitation.
They can't help themselves. They're forever angry zealots.

(58,785 posts)The legislation would be the largest infusion of federal investment into infrastructure projects in more than a decade, touching nearly every facet of the American economy and fortifying the nations response to the warming of the planet.
It would provide historic levels of funding for the modernization of the nations power grid and projects to better manage climate risks, as well as pour hundreds of billions of dollars into the repair and replacement of aging public works projects. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/10/us/politics/infrastructure-bill-passes.html
You were right in that it did pass today. On to the next steps.
