Things Are Falling Apart For Ron DeSantis As Mainstream Media Calls Out His Hypocrisy
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is being called out as a small government hypocrite for his authoritarian anti-mask COVID policies.
Video of Willie Geist on MSNBCs Morning Joe:
@PoliticusSarah
Even #MorningJoe is calling DeSantis is small government hypocrite, "Desantis using this top-down pressure of the governor's office to dictate what school boards can do, flies in the face of the argument that he doesn't want the federal government telling him what to do." https://t.co/P3nsEOHi2J

Geist said, And the idea that Mr. Small Government Desantis is using this top-down pressure of the governors office to dictate what school boards can do, flies in the face of the argument that he doesnt want the federal government telling him what to do these are local issues. But on a human level with no politics involved, a career educator is trying to protect her kids from getting covid, and shes being threatened now in an official letter she has to answer by 5:00 today with having her funding taken away from the state.
Republicans Arent Really In Favor Of Small Government.
When a Republican says they favor small government, what they mean is a small government for things that they oppose. Masks in schools go from being a personal choice to government mask bans because Ron DeSantis is trying to build a 2024 presidential platform atop the bodies of COVID victims. Small government is Republican code for let me do whatever I want. It has nothing to do with the use of governmental power or decision-making.
Ron DeSantis is following the Trump playbook and running himself and his 2024 presidential hopes straight into the ground.

(23,094 posts)Almost one in every 3 tests here are positive and the hospitals are filled, very little capacity. They are now refusing non-critical surgeries. Baptist CEO put out a press release last week saying if you have a heart attack, stroke, or head trauma come there immediately. Anything else, go to Urgent Care or Primary Care.
What about chemo, what about the woman who discovers a large lump in her breast or a man who has lumps in his armpits? These are also people potentially being killed by Death Sentences RW self-profiting lunacy, besides the obvious Covid deaths.

(8,200 posts)This could prove to be catastrophic if it is allowed to start a mass infection of those under 12 years. This could be the impetus to force inoculation when children returning in mass to school become infected. It could also result in many parents refusing to send their kids to school. The situation could very well result in DeSantis' downfall. Of course the majority of Republican ignoramuses will continue to support him, just as they have with Trump. I have loss any respect or tolerance for Republicans and now longer want to associate with them for any reason. I consider them to be just as dangerous as the most dangerous outlaws with the same contempt for the welfare of people as my view drug dealers who kill people. They are just as revolting and disgusting as vermin.

(16,370 posts)And PLEASE may that downfall come FAST! Like immediately, if not sooner!
Of course, it's already taken too long, as I'm sure every doctor and every nurse in every hospital in Florda could attest, but the sooner, the better!

(8,387 posts)The headline might just as well be "DeSantis Disliked By MSNBC Talking Heads". It's virtually an endorsement for his prospective candidacy.
He's out there "owning the libs".

(8,387 posts)If so, the "Trump playbook" combined with GOP voter suppression efforts in several states adds up to an electoral win.
But the headline "Things Are Falling Apart" is reminiscent of so many "wheels have come off the bus" stories from 2016.
It is unfortunate that so many media pieces like this convey a sense of triumphalism, almost as if someone wanted to convey the impression that we do not need to work to develop, promote and elect candidates, but merely need to await the self-destruction of our opponents.
Nothing is "falling apart" for DeathSentence. He is every bit as much Florida's governor as we was last week and will be next week, and is wildly popular among those who will be allowed to vote in the next election.
This headline merely adorns a Tweeted video clip from an MSNBC program. For many, the message "tongues are being wagged at DeSantis on MSNBC" is a practical endorsement of his candidacy.
This is the kind of free advertising he needs.

(13,964 posts)Trump has a dumb charisma that some people inexplicably find charming. It remains to be seen if DeSantis can pull off a nationwide win. Im certainly not writing it off but I like Bidens chances (as of now).

There is still and has been for years, a net migration into Florida of +1000 people per day.
I can tell you from the ground here, not many of them appear to be liberals.
Had a guy tell me last weekend how happy he is to have moved into the "Last Free State"
Florida is F-ed for at least a generation after this Trump/Desantis mess.

The "Death Panels" thing when Obama was trying to get the ACA done, that is nothing but projection, they are the murderers and they prove it every day.

(22,357 posts)It will be his inability to control the local governments, schools boards and private businesses that flout his Covid dictates.
To the GOP mind, death is not a concern, but weakness is unforgivable. DeSantis can't control the Miami-Dade school district, major cruise lines, etc. This makes him weak and ineffective.

Im not aware he has attacked them. Because politicians in Florida dont fuck with Disney. Not if they are smart, so I expect the Governor to attack them soon. 70K employees mandated to get the vaccine.
Once the vaccine is FDA fully approved it will become common. Businesses saw their revenue crash. They want this to end.

(15,381 posts)Here is a guy - TFG - who has basically screwed over or destroyed anyone who ever worked with or for him - either the incompetence rubbed off onto other people's reputations, or the first time they did something remotely "disloyal," he threw them under the bus. His way of doing things ultimately lead to his own defeat, and other people who tried to follow his example fared just as badly. What makes republicans still say, "Yeah, I'm going to be the next TFG/kiss up to him?"
