I hope when history is finally written that Raygun will be recognized as the worst influential President in modern American history. Any unbiased reading of the last 40 years will show that we retreated in every way from the shrinking of the middle class to race relations and unity in America. God I hated him then and I hate him more now. What we are seeing today is all Raygun.

(5,275 posts)The long term damage he did is incalculable. He undid FDRs New Deal.
The Top Marginal Tax Rate was 70% when he took over, down some from historical highs a bit. He slashed it to 28% before he left. On top of that he did away with the Fairness Doctrine.....which eventually begat Fox News, OAN, NewsMax, etc.
The B Actor President is hardly ever called to account on this, at least on Mainstream Media.

Don't even get me started on his extensive crimes. The mutherf**** killed the economy, 12 years of a shitty admin who boasted family values, morality, Christian Right, Iran Contra deal, ...........

He went on TV to admit what he did was illegal.

(34,105 posts)Good grief, is that the deepest their brains will take them? Don't answer, we ALL know the answer to that.
My sons thankfully both investigate everything and are right with us on all of that. I taught them young about who wrecked the forward trajectory of this country. There were a lot of people who participated over a good number of years but Reagan captured something I will never understand in people. The willingness to like someone so much that they can get away with anything they want and not ever be questioned or punished. Those 8 years scared the hell out of me and with a few exceptions I have remained either scared or just hella skeptical.

(406 posts)DO NOT ELECT A F...ING ACTOR President of the United States. The only thing they know how to do is ACT. Think about it. They are TRAINED to make people believe lies. Entertainment is fine when the entertained understand that they are being entertained. It is criminal when it masquerades as government policy.

(32,633 posts)I totally agree with you. Ronald Reagan was the beginning of the end.
I was hitting 30 when he got elected, and I still remember how it was in 1980. Our parents and grandparents were the ones who put Reagan in office. Personally I didn't know anybody my age or younger who voted for him. But the things he did during his 8 years in the White House have affected everything and everyone of us for the rest of our lives.

...to happen to the USA. His feeble mind and avuncular style propped up my monied cons were the absolute worst. Name a problem of today and many can be directly linked to the old nuts demented reign of errors.
