(9,696 posts)the republicans are highly motivated to be governed by someone who only gets 20% (at most) of the vote. That's how they like it.
If Newsom were recalled there should be a second election where they actually have to campaign. In the mean time, the state would be run by the lt. governor.
Why can't California fix this recall system? Is it a law or in the constitution? Because it's wrong that we could loose a governor who got well over 50% of the vote due to 10% of the population signing a petition and then picking a name off a list. California can do better than this.

(9,696 posts)I've been concerned because I usually receive GOTV calls or request to volunteer but it's been all quiet here. Now at least I can be pro-active.
Though I'm still pissed that we're in this situation. First we get through it, then do we fix it?

(9,107 posts)I don't understand why this is the solution to the last recall when we wound up with Schwarzenegger. I wish he'd endorse Newsom. He cares about climate change and clean energy. The Teapublicans care about nothing but shrinking the govt and taking an ax to democracy. This recall appears tailor made for them.

(9,056 posts)The second question is who becomes governor if the recall succeeds.
I still think it's madness people are being urged to leave it blank. If Repubs coalesce, and Democrats do whatever, we can get hosed if the recall works.

Flattering, but weird.
Mostly weird.

(1,668 posts)We can complain about voting for the least worse candidate all we want, but that's really what it boils down to. Newsom may not be %100, but you can be sure the GOP will run someone infinitely worse.

This needs further explanation with sources/links. Very confusing - and we DON'T need Confusion. See Palm Beach County.

(7,263 posts)then we need to have a viable candidate in the write in section - that is my understanding.
Newsome can be recalled but still retain office if enough folks vote for him in the crowded field.
This really needs official explanation.

(21,856 posts)any write-in's could take away votes from Newsom:
For many Democrats and other opponents of the recall, question No. 1 is easy. They plan to vote no.
But what about question No. 2?
Thats a dilemma for Democrats because the best-known recall candidates are Republicans like Newsoms 2018 opponent John Cox and conservative talk radio host Larry Elder. By not voting on question No. 2, Democratic voters risk ceding the recall election to a candidate whose views they oppose.
There are 46 candidates on the recall ballot, including nine Democrats.
The California Democratic Party is urging left-leaning voters not to select anyone on the recall ballots second question.
The California Democratic Party is activating voters to vote no on the Republican Recall and leave the second question blank. Its the only way to stop Republicans who want to take California back to some very dark days, said party spokeswoman Shery Yang.
Former Newsom spokesman, Nathan Click, reiterated Yangs advice for Democratic voters.
Leave it blank. Voting no is the only way to block the Republican power grab and prevent the Republican takeover of California, Click said.

(3,172 posts)Im disgusted that there are so many selections, I wont dignify them as actual choices, for the replacement.
46 candidates, 24 of whom are GPO.
But 8 stupid (unknown, egotistical) dems. One dem to prevent a split vote would have been a far better strategy.
I dont actually recognize any of the dem candidate names. Pure folly. Gaming the system. Utterly contemptible.

(7,263 posts)Happened to one state rep candidate in the 2020 Florida election - the rethugs ran a person with the same last name as the Dem incumbent and he split the vote and the incumbent lost by just a few votes - the fake guy got thousands.
Very common tactic over the years.
The GOP got caught, but don't think that invalidated the election results - the GOP crazy got seated.

(21,856 posts)they are giving all the free advertising and publicity to the GOPers on the ballot. EVERY. DAMN. DAY. that is how their side is reaching so many who want to recall.
VOTE NO
Larry Elder is a right wing hack, no nothing who knows nothing about running the fifth largest economy in the world. it would be an utter disaster.
