and there is video
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16524419
Afghanistan's Taliban has condemned a video that appears to show US Marines urinating on dead Taliban fighters.
A spokesman told the BBC: "It is not a human action, it's a wild action that is too shameful for us to talk about."
But Reuters quoted a Taliban spokesman as saying the video would not derail attempts at peace talks to end the war.
The US military is investigating the authenticity of the video and the Marine Corps said the actions were not consistent with its core values.

They are all horrific but one does not cancel the other. Further if you think the US army and its allies haven't been maiming and killing you aren't paying attention.
For the record desecrating the dead is a war crime.

(27,670 posts)If you are capable of empathy, try to imagine how you would feel as you watched some murderous lunatic who invaded your country killing your mother and child and then laughing while they pissed all over your mother's, or your child's, dead body...
How would you feel?
Like this?
"Why get weepy-eyed over some action against a dead body for which one has just shown extreme disrespect by taking the life from it.
It is now just a body. A corpse. A cadaver. Potential dust or ashes. It no longer has feelings."
"It's not wrong when we do it!"...?
"OWS seeks to replace the entire political, social, and economic culture with a wider sense of human community."

(34,060 posts)I agree with your basic position on war.
But, those killed signed up for that risk (valid concerns aside about racism and classism, that makes - at least in our country - more people of color, more people who are less educated, more people without means in the line of fire).
Their living family members may not have signed up for that risk, but on some level they have accepted it.
Some people have very strong feelings about the bodies of their loved ones. I don't happen to be one of them - but I know those feelings are extremely powerful. For years, it kept my sister from signing the necessary consent forms to permit my mother to make advance arrangements to donate her remains for tissue transplant/research/dissection - by people who intended to put her body to good use.
So, from my perspective, it is not the impact on the body that is the issue here - but the cruel knife twisting it does to the loved ones of the person who previously inhabited that body - adding insult to their injury, as it were.

(42,239 posts)(Reuters) - A video showing what appear to be American forces urinating on dead Taliban fighters prompted anger in Afghanistan and promises of a U.S. investigation on Thursday, but the insurgent group said it would not harm nascent efforts to broker peace talks.

(42,239 posts)A Taliban spokesman described the scenes as 'barbaric. The short video clip features four khaki clad Marines, some in sunglasses, laughing as they urinate on three corpses. One soldier uses high-pitch comic voice as he says 'have a great day buddy.
Pentagon officials said they could not verify the footage, but quickly launched an investigation into the film amid fears that it could damage the prospects of tentative peace talks with the Taliban and revive memories of abuses of Iraqi prisoners by American guards at the notorious Abu Graib jail.
The emergence of the footage follows the prosecution of the five soldiers of the US Armys 5th Stryker Brigade accused of murdering Afghan civilians in Helmand province in 2010.
The actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps. This matter will be fully investigated, said a Pentagon spokesman, while the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan 'stongly condemned the actions captured on the video and blamed them on a small group of US individuals, who apparently are no longer serving in Afghanistan.

Its interesting that that media are publishing contradictory statements on this subject.

American soldiers doing "nation building" is never going to work given the level of cultural prejudice that is endemic.

(25,592 posts)Nobody from Afghanistan attacked us, U.S. If anything we should have invaded and taken over our good friends, Saudi Arabia. Why didn't we? Ask the BFEE.
And while I am at it, ask yourself, how did Iraq get involved in this so-called War on Terror, anyway? There were no terrorist there when we invaded.
Maybe you should go look in a mirror to see who really approves of terrorism. Pissing on the dead bodies of people we kill is a form of terrorism. Really, it is.
The Talibans hosted A-Q as their honored guests and refused to hand them over.
ps: Not that I object to civilizing the other fundie hellhole of Saudi Arabia in principle.

(25,592 posts)Yeah, they fought the Russians for us.
Then they were invited by the Republicans to Texas. They turned down the offer. Oil was involved, so we made them the enemy and invaded. Sound familiar?
