Next up for Covid vaccines: kids under 12. Dosing etc. Possibly end of Sept

It looks like children ages 5-12 get a strong immune response with 10 micrograms of vaccine antigen, Frenck said.

"So one third of the dose that we're giving adults, or even one third of the dose that was used in 12-year-olds and above, was just as immunogenic. We got just as good an immune response as the 30-microgram dose and there were less side effects," he said.
"So because of that, for the 5-12-year-old dosing we are looking at 10 micrograms, and then, in the younger kids, under 5, even going down further to 3 micrograms."

"We're giving enough vaccine to be able to get the same immune response as we're seeing in people 25 years of age that are getting 30 micrograms."

in light of the Delta variant being the dominant one now, and the conclusion was that an elementary school of 500 kids would see 70% of them infected within 3 months without a mask rule, and 40% infected within 3 months even with a mask rule.

Even with the lower lethality in children compared to adults/elderly, that's a lot of dead kids in the immediate future...

I dont know why they cut it off at 5. Our kid is a "frontliner". He goes to preschool M-F 8-5 and interacts with dozens of people every day.

We are really perplexed by this. I think they f'kd up by setting the age cutoff at 5. Not sure what we are going to do.

She can't wear a mask, because she freaks out, (she's non-verbal) but her classes are super small.....

My DIL films her at the bus stop and she now wears a mask around her neck...(baby steps..one at a time)
I haven't seen images with the mask on her face though....She really does enjoy school.....

She did not go last year because of the mask requirement. She started school just before the pandemic began. (She could have started earlier if my DIL had gotten the autism diagnosis earlier)
She is not very high functioning...

They will probably test under 5 after 5-12....They need smaller doses because their immune systems are more active, but even younger kids are a bit different....
