Gay man in Kabul 'raped and beaten' by Taliban after being tricked into meeting

The victim, we'll call Hanan to protect his identity, had been talking to a man on social media for three weeks before agreeing to meet him.

Hanan, a gay man terrified since the Taliban took control of the country, had been promised a safe way out of the country.

He was deceived - two members of the Taliban met him and carried out their brutal attack.

Hanan survived but is living in silence, shock, and shame under a regime intent on not just denying, but extinguishing the existence of him and we who are like him.
----
"They are trying to tell the world 'we are changed and we don't have problems with women's rights or human rights' - but they are lying.

"The Taliban hasn't changed, because their ideology hasn't change," he says.

Under that ideology, same sex love, attraction and relationships are punishable by death.

Emphasis mine

There are people on the radio this morning saying we should have talks with the Taliban cause they are not as bad as ISIS-K....
Yeah, the Taliban only want to take Afghanistan back to the 10th Century, while ISIS - K want to go all the way back to the 7th. Some difference 👀. All the while LGBTQI are at risk of real harm, as are women and girls and minority religious and ethnic groups, at the hands of competing cray cray death cults.

I certainly think so. There's a lot of deadly hypocrisy in politics and religion. abqtommy Aug 2021 #5

energy sources so we won't have to deal with those shithole countries. I know that's harsh, but that's what they are. Being religious fundamentalists is no excuse for the human rights abuses they commit. I'm sick of hearing about this shit! It shouldn't be happening anywhere!

lithium.

Related to both the drug side of things (hey, 7-up) and the energy side of things (charge those batteries).

Probably one of China's top 3 things on the "What to buy on our next trip to Kabul" list.

I said what I said because the main reason we go into that area of the world is that we want their oil. Afghanistan has lots of poppies, but no oil, so my statement seems strange and faulty.

But oil-producing countries stir up a lot of the conflict in Afghanistan. Saudi Arabia and their Wahabbists spread their toxic version of Islam there. The Taliban is the result of that. If it weren't for all the countries in the world giving the Saudis and the other Gulf countries their money, they wouldn't be able to afford to go to other Muslim countries and radicalize them.

So the money the world spends on oil finances all of this evil, intolerant behavior. To get to the root of the problem, we're going to have to break our addiction to oil. We don't need to give those assholes money, and we don't need to fight wars in their god-forsaken countries anymore.

How do they excuse that behavior? Why would they want to rape a man unless they were gay themselves?

There’s male prisoners who rape other male prisoners but they’d never call themselves gay.
