Democratic Combat Vet Running Against Madison Cawthorn Calls Him A Traitor
https://www.politicususa.com/2021/09/14/democratic-combat-vet-running-against-madison-cawthorn-calls-him-a-traitor.html
Posted on Tue, Sep 14th, 2021 by Jason Easley Democratic Combat Vet Running Against Madison Cawthorn Calls Him A Traitor Josh Remillard, a combat veteran and Democrat running against Rep. Madison Cawthorn, called insurrection inciter a traitor. Remillard said: I’m sick of politicians who send us to war and don’t take care of us when we come home. And I’m sick of people like Madison Cawthorn who betray the democracy that I fought to defend and that my friend Brice died for. Madison Cawthorn is a traitor, and I’m the guy to get him out of Congress.
Look at what Madison Cawthorn has done. He incited violence and hate by encouraging insurrectionists, admiring Hitler, and calling for ‘bloodshed,’ and now we have Swastika- and machete-bearing criminals at the Capitol and a second rally this week. This is not a coincidence, and he’s got to go. Rep. Cawthorn is planning another attack on the Capitol. The freshman congressman is one of Trump’s most loyal devotees and betrayers of democracy. Josh Remillard is one of a number of Democrats who are vying to face Cawthorn next year. Remillard lived in foster care, was adopted by his grandparents, and then served his country in Iraq and Afghanistan. His patriotism and willingness to defend his country has already been proven in war, and if he becomes the Democratic nominee, he will offer voters in North Carolina’s 11th District the choice between a combat vet and a domestic terrorist.

32. He won by double digits
It was a comparatively narrow win for how red that district is (he should have won by several more points)... but it was in no sense narrow enough to predict a switch.
And Josh Remillard is not a new candidate. He ran for the local state house district last year - and lost by 21 points. Having said that. He's potentially the "right" person for this race. It's a "sacrificial lamb" district that isn't really winnable unless the incumbent falls on his face with some closet skeleton. If that happens, you still need a plausible candidate who is the mirror of the damaged goods in the seat. |

30. Right approach, too
Call these suckers out for what they are: seditionists, traitors. The press won't do it; they'd rather wrap everything in their 'objective' gauze and/or slide into bothsiderism.
There are not two sides to this fight. You either support the continuation of our democratic Republic or you don't. You either demand accountability from the insurrectionists (and their supporters including Trump and his apologists) on January 6th or you don't. You're either on the side of science and rationality or you're not. The list goes on and on. The choice is clear, stark. Trump and his acolytes have poisoned the minds of what remains of the GOP. That poison needs to be fully acknowledged, then dealt with accordingly. As in, they need to lose everywhere. |

I want to believe we can get rid of him, but this is a red district and cawthorn is a local yokel.
I was raised in Brooklyn, but have lived in the 11th district of NC for almost 20 years, and my family moved here in the 1980's. Dad was a rethug and felt this was the place for him! I've seen Dems try and try again. Heath shuler, a sports hero, was the last Dem congressman here. If Moe Davis (an air force veteran) couldn't beat cawthorn, I doubt Josh will be able to. Moe was from Shelby, which is in western NC but part of district 10. He attended a local college. Cawthorn is from this area. Josh was raised in Wilmington, a long way from these mountains. Locals will support a local boy. It's not what you know, it's where you're family is from. |
