criminal indictments against several persons, including Donald J. Trump, for conspiracy, obstruction of justice, fraud, tax evasion, bribery, among other charges, as part of a massive RICO prosecution?

(18,486 posts)I asked what your reaction would be if he did.
FYI, it is standard practice for the attorney general to make the announcement himself when a large and important case is filed

(115,681 posts)I doubt we'll see the kind of perp walk where the defendant is escorted into the courthouse covering his face with his coat, but that would make my day, too.

(33,643 posts)Until that happened, I'd give you 25-1 odds against IQ45 ever being indicted by DoJ for anything, ever.

(15,325 posts)...to bring a case of this size & scope.
That's AFTER a full housecleaning & finding of all the blocks & bombs place in the DOJ by Barr before he exited the door.
I would be in tears. Thankful & applauding

(112,134 posts)If Garland believes that he has an airtight case, then I would be elated if it happened this afternoon.

(115,681 posts)Well, how about an example with which most of us are at least somewhat familiar? The trial of Derek Chauvin for the killing of George Floyd took almost a year to prepare and two weeks to try after several weeks of jury selection, and his appeal plus the trials of his co-defendants as well as his federal trial on civil rights charges are still pending. In Chauvin's original case the actual act had been recorded, so there was no factual question as to what happened, and there were multiple witnesses, all of whom were quickly identified and interviewed. There were no complex paper trails to follow, no issues of executive or attorney-client privilege, only three statutory charges (one of which will probably be thrown out on appeal on account of the recent decision in the Mohammed Noor case), and no investigations by multiple overlapping agencies. But this relatively simple case, fraught as it was with social and racial issues, isn't over yet and won't be for several years. The legal system moves slowly. It always does.

I guess after, especially if I don't have to leave the house due to still having some in stock after New Year's.
Looks like that's a Thursday. So depending upon the time of the announcement I might already be at work. Don't think my company offers "Schadenfreude Days".

(8,767 posts)Be interested in just how deep the criminal indictments go, meaning how far and wide the food chain of those involved.
Being nearly 70, I have the impression that in general pols are seldom prosecuted or punished for misconduct.
