BROOKLYN (WABC) -- An arrest has been made after a woman was kicked down an escalator at a Brooklyn subway station.
Police announced the arrest of Bradley K. Hill on Friday evening. The 32-year-old was charged with assault and attempted assault.
The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. on September 9 at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station in Boerum Hill.
Video of the incident showed the suspect kicking the woman in the chest after he walked past her on the stairs.
The 32-year-old victim, who didn't want her name used, said earlier this week that the man pushed his way past her as they rode up the escalator to the street, and she told him he should have said, "Excuse me."

(52,468 posts)for encouraging every loser in the country to be a bully since these types always have existed and always will...but the fucking moron is certainly to blame for the increase in this behavior since 2015. He encourages this crap since he is a 100% bully and always has been. His daddy would be proud of him.

(53,487 posts)in front of you, you might freeze for a moment because you can't believe what you are looking at.
I have reacted like that. I moved once I got my head around it but it took longer than I would have thought it would.

(83,261 posts)She violated norms by standing to the left middle of the escalator. She should have been very close to the right. The person behind her was forced to follow the violation.
The problem with standing on the left is that most people know to stand on the right. The right is for standing, the left is for walking up/down the escalator. If one or two people stand on the left, it forces those walking to either zig zag around or eventually blocks the escalator and everyone has to stand. You will receive hostile comments for being the one person on the left or blocking the escalator in NYC.
I dont fault her for saying something to the guy. Small arguments are part of living in NYC. Unfortunately, so is dealing with crazy people. This sort of incident is where the city gets its reputation from. Eyes down and dont talk to anyone.

I'd say the man who kicked her down the stairs violated MORE norms.
I'm glad he was arrested. People in our neighborhood have been pissed about this.

(854 posts)I didn't know about this expectation when I went to NYC. I was there for a week and never realized it. Then I went to DC some years later and was "educated" about it there.
Most of my life I lived in rural areas: MO as a child and then in rural IL.

(37,748 posts)You made a special point to point it out, yet tell us it does not rise to the level of the consequence. That being so, what then is the precise relevance of her violating benign and trivial norms?
I mean, it's gotta be directly relevant to what happened, as its the very premise and introduction of your contention.

(83,261 posts)So he might have felt that he could bump her. She took offense and said something. He then kicked her. It definitely should not have escalated the way it did, but people are crazy.

(11,949 posts)May not be your intention. But you have done so.
I seldom ride escalators. A few times a year. So if I violate some unposted norm Im partly at fault if some rando tries to kick me down the escalator?
She could have been blocked the whole fucking thing its still 100% on the dude. And I guarantee he would have not done that to me. Men who commit violence against helpless women are not the type to do the same to big white guys.
