It was probably the former guy?
He really wanted a huge turnout. It would have proved his power to control his followers and his ability to threaten the Congress and the government any time he wanted. That would have pleased him very much.
But, it didn't happen.
Many probably stayed away because they were afraid they would be arrested? There was a conscience of guilt. They didn't look like "patriots". They looked like outlaws.
The Former Guy gave them his usual pep talk. "The election was stolen. Joe Biden is an illegitimate President."
He wanted so much for millions of supporters to turn up in support of his insurrection.

(14,695 posts)He said it was a set up to make him look bad, so even he must have known nobody would show up, with or without his support.
He's still a loser.

(64,988 posts)He was told not to promote this event because it was going to be an epic did.
Instead of laying low & saying nothing (the wise thing) he tried to create a smoke screen by blabbing about it being a set up.
But, he said it so close to the event, it couldn't have reasonably reduced turnout.
Nobody was going anyway.

(2,114 posts)Because it was clear that it would be an epic FAIL. He tried to distance himself ahead of time, just as he distanced himself from serving America by dodging the draft five freaking times -- and then pretending he was Mr. Tuff Guy

(43,123 posts)They have a right to a fair and impartial trial for the crimes they committed, and a humane punishment, which is a far lot more than they showed to the United States and its government on January 6, 2021.

(39 posts)I tend to (need to) think that the "Trumpers" are becoming aware of the Emperor without clothes. His gross nakedness is not something they can support any more...
Many have figured out that the man is not out to help them... Kinda like when you are in middle school and you figure out that the Bully is not powerful and is just a messed up kid with a messed up family. The frontal lobe is awoken up when you start to think for yourself.
Naive? ... maybe, but I need to find hope for our populace

And damn those police looked like they were dressed in shadow storm trooper armor. There were more cops there then protesters.

The hate rally crowd size is pathetic.

(5,371 posts)That TFG is still a walking, talking thing, and still draws a crowd.
I wish he'd fade away altogether, really. And his few followers wake up one day and go 'OMG! What was I thinking?'
I'm not in favor of rewriting or whitewashing history, but mass deletion of pages from future history books, wiping of videotapes and removal of entries on many websites is fine by me in this case.
(After all the insurrectionists are dealt with, of course.)
The best I can hope for though, is that the MSM collectively decide TFG is no longer worthy of their attention.

They can only attempt to continue their unequal fiction
The January 6 insurrection is not up for debate
Those involved are traitors and criminals
Those who instigated it are traitors
All should face prison
