UTICA, NYBlasting state officials for putting her into such an impossible position, local nurse Sophia Wood confirmed Wednesday that she was carefully weighing whether she was better off getting the vaccine or losing her job and dying.
On the plus side, if get vaccinated, I could get to continue to live my life healthy and happy with no drawbacks, but is that really worth giving up the right to die while out of work? said the healthcare worker, who had spent the past weeks agonizing over a long list of pros and cons of getting vaccinated that she had written up for each side of the issue.
On one hand, I have way more items listed under the pros column, like keep job, protect others, and protect myself, but on the other, I have freedom written in big red letters, circled, and underlined multiple times. Im pretty torn between the two. Who would issue such a cruel ultimatum?
At press time, Wood assured herself that regardless of the choice she ultimately made, she would wind up back in the hospital.

(204,808 posts)Since I'm in New York State and that's really happening here now...
My two friends who work in the local hospital both got vaccinated last January, before the vaccine was offered locally. They had to drive an hour downstate to a major hospital to receive the Pfizer. But then I spoke to an older gentleman I know (mid 80s) who said he wasn't getting vaccinated since his daughter who is a nurse at the hospital isn't getting the vaccine and he gets his medical advice from her. He said she'd sooner quit her job - and it looks like her time has run out.

The article featured people in health care who are leaving rather than get vaccinated. There was a woman who had been a charge nurse. She mentioned caring for covid patients and seeing first hand what it does to people. But she said that she is concerned about the vaccine because she didn't know what the effects would be a few years down the road of "putting something into my body." So she is claiming a religious objection, based not on an established denomination, but on her "personal beliefs." She is on unpaid leave waiting for the outcome of a suit that challenges Governor Hochul's refusal to allow religious exemptions.
Another nurse, an LPN, is getting his RN degree and just has one semester left, so he got the vaccine against his will so he wouldn't be forced out of his RN classes. Said that he could not afford to be out of work AND to lose the investment of his money and time in his classes because he is married and has children. But he believes that it was wrong for the state to take away his freedom of choice.
The dissonant jolt for me was in his final comments at the end of his interview. He revealed that his wife currently is very ill with covid, so "maybe" it's good that he did get the vaccine because he didn't know how they would have coped if both of them were down with it at the same time. But, he still believes that it was wrong to force him to give up his freedom of choice. No word about concern for the well-being of his wife or for his children's exposure to her. Just a feeling of bring a victim of the state.

(113,085 posts)to be asked if they support a woman's right to choose her bodily autonomy, and then get called out for the f'n hypocrites that they are.
I wonder if the wife of that almost RN realizes that he doe not give damn about her or their children.

She will be in Georgia for s few months on that job while hrr family remains in NY.
The lengths that people go to in order to avoid a simple shot is amazing, especially for licensed health care workers.

(1,671 posts)Robbins said she objected to the weekly testing and vaccination because of what she called her religious beliefs, and posted a letter she sent to Zimmerman explaining her reasoning not to get tested on Facebook Saturday, Sept. 25.
Oh, her letter is a doozy.
It is not my responsibility to force my personal religious convictions regarding this matter on other persons as I believe whether to receive a COVID 19 vaccination is a personal decision to each person (Romans 14) and I never have, she said in her letter. Where scripture does not expressly instruct on a particular matter, I believe that I am required to search the Scriptures myself for related truths (Romans 15:4) and seek personal guidance from the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38-39; Romans). If I fail to submit to the personal convictions that the Holy Spirit and Scripture has impressed upon me, I will be sinning against God. I have personally searched the Scripture and sought guidance from the Holy Spirit to come to my decision. I know that I am a minority in my beliefs but regardless of that, I believe that I should have my religious beliefs protected.
Here are previous quotes from her:
Malignant narcissist alert!
In August 2020, she shared an article on Facebook headlined Face masks pose serious risks to the healthy from a conspiracy theorist webpage, claiming that she cant wear a mask without getting a horrible migraine and lamenting: I guess thats what this life is all about caring more about everyone elses needs more than mine.
In a May 14, 2020, post about New Yorks COVID restrictions, she wrote: Every day now we hear about another scare tactic to get us to worry and stay hunkered down at home afraid to stop us from truly living. Stop listening to the news. It will never get better here on this earth. She later made reference to apocalyptic Biblical prophecies, stating: Im no longer looking for the signs of the times. Im listening for the sound of the trumpet.
Is she planning to take a trip behind the next Hale-Bopp-like comet?
A middle/high school principal is supposed to serve the student population and lead the teachers under her supervision. IMO, she's a complete failure at both.

(21,346 posts)"beliefs" sounds like something totally made up to claim religious exemption. Looks like she made a decision based on fear or on ignorance of the vaccines, then after the fact searched for something Biblical to creatively interpret as support in order to claim "religious beliefs."
