It's becoming harder and harder to tell what actually happened and what is the Lie.
I find myself double cking everything to see if I can tell what really happened.
This is a very dangerous time.

(14,651 posts)You tell it and seek it, leftyladyfrommo.
Others, apparently a sizable minority, not so much.
From Jay Rosen:
...In reality (Kelly Ann Conway) had made a grave announcement (proclaiming alternative facts). The nature of the Trump government would be propagandistic. And as Garry Kasparov observes for us, The point of modern propaganda isnt only to misinform or push an agenda. It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate truth. This exhaustion, this annihilation were on their way to the Sunday shows, and to all interactions with journalists. That is what Kellyanne Conway was saying that day on Meet the Press. But the people who run the show chose not to believe it.

(18,816 posts)the most outrageous things. I have no idea how to deal with it. Anything I counter with is just fake news.
Or it's all a government plot. On and on and on.
I find myself simply retreating into silence. I am out of arguments. My ability to even respond is gone.

And WHEN (not if) they lose their social security, they'll blame.....DEMOCRATS. Democrats who INVENTED social security and ensured it became law and thus saved millions by now from abject poverty in old age. THAT is who they'll blame. For all of it.
I G N O R A N T and absolutely clueless.
It's embarrassing. I don't even DISCUSS any of it with them. As it has been all of my life, I fight alone in my family - perhaps with other Dems but in my family - I'm alone in this fight.

(18,816 posts)Our country to be like 1939 Germany. It's the holocaust all over again only the right wingers are the victims.
It's the exact opposite of what is really happening.
That is scary.

The Mercers laid the groundwork for the Trump revolution," Bannon told The New Yorker in 2017. "Irrefutably, when you look at donors during the past four years, they have had the single biggest impact of anybody, including the Kochs." Steve Schmidt, a former Republican strategist and co-founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, sees it differently. Rebekah Mercer, he said in an interview with Salon, is the "chief financier or one of the chief financiers of the fascist movement, and that's what it is."

The antidote Truth.
How do we counter the big lie? That can only be done by the big truth, that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election and that Donald Trump lost, endlessly repeated by as many sources as possible. Most Republican leaders in Congress have stated publicly that Biden won. Almost all Republican members of Congress and all but a small handful of Trump loyalists admit privately that Biden won. Now if they would only say that publicly.

Important stuff thats becoming lost to history...
Time of Useful Consciousness explains monetized mass propaganda and its impact - now more than a century in action...
Alex Carey said that the people of the US have been subjected to an unparalleled, expensive, 3/4 century long propaganda effort designed to expand corporate rights by undermining democracy and destroying the unions. Careys unique view of US history goes back to World War I and ends with the Reagan era.

For the ownership class, as long as the rich get richer, they dont care if democracy vanishes down the Memory Hole. Thats the Plan. Truth is our best weapon.

(18,816 posts)may be if the rightwing becomes too powerful and white supremacists get violent. It could evolve into complete anarchy and chaos and the whole system could collapse.
Trump set the deplorables loose but their movement has evolved into a political powerhouses that is much bigger than Trump.

If you don't have communication with the outside world it would be impossible to know any different than what you have been taught. I think they have a really strong neighborhood spy system, too. You sure don't want to get reported.but

Yes the life is very restricted in NK. Yes I hear lots of spies everywhere.
Interesting story, thanks for sharing.

North Korea is such a sad story.

(45,640 posts)Ruthless dictatorship with iron grip on the people.
China props up NK as it is buffer between China and South Korea.
And allows China some control over the Korean Peninsula.
But China gets exasperated because NK poses a threat to peace.
Kim Jong-Un brings way too much drama to the Yellow Sea and East China Sea (American subs, etc).
This is too close to Shanghai, China's beloved financial center.

Unless China got involved which I don't think they would do.

Unless China decides to make Kim Jung Un a patsy, but that is somewhat risky.

(10,610 posts)Then, with the invention of farming (in several independent spots around the world), we transitioned to an agricultural economy. That persisted for thousands of years.
Then came the industrial revolution, and the industrial age began. That one actually didn't last all that long, maybe a century or so.
Next came the silicon revolution, and we transitioned to an information-based economy. That happened within most of our lifetimes. It was rapid, and many people found themselves feeling somewhat left-behind.
But the information age is already over.
Sometime, I'm not sure exactly when, we entered a new era. Instead of an economy based on information, we became an economy based on bullshit. Instead of informing people, we seek to titillate them, enrage them, and capture their eyeballs at any cost. Instead of finding ways to make better products, we find new and better ways of tricking people into buying shitty things they never really needed in the first place.
Is the stock market dominated by "tech" companies? If you look a little more carefully, you'll see that they are probably better described as "advertising" companies. That's how they make their money. By holding your attention, and selling it to their advertisers for top dollar.
It's no wonder we had a reality-show host and con-man as our president for four years. He's a man of our times.
