The progressive leader told Meet the Press that she talked to Sinema about infrastructure last weekend.
I do think shes very engaged, Jayapal said. I know she cares about climate, and I know she cares about some of these other things.
The Democrat said that shes going to assume the best of Sinema and Manchin and say that we need both of them.
Just like we need every single member of the House, Jayapal added, noting that her chamber only has a three-vote majority.

(43,333 posts)and others will appear. Sinema is very likely toast whether she stays Dem, goes Indy, or goes Rethug. She seems either clueless about PR or she simply doesn't give a toss, and is angling for a big payday post-Senate.
I worry far more about her than Manchin. She seems very unstable, and could truly fuck the entire party for years if she goes full rogue.

Let her run as a Republican.

(5,376 posts)Not that we have that much leverage on Sen. Sinema since her term runs until 2024, but keeping pressure on her in any way possible seems the most reasonable thing to do:

Just as a side note, I realize that the labeling conventions for elected Democrats are arbitrary and change over time, but how does the 47th most conservative member of the entire Senate get labelled as a "moderate Democrat'?

(15,325 posts)Since you mentioned her election, here's an interesting data chart on both her & Manchin's last electoral districts.
Perhaps it helps define where these 2 stand in comparison to their districts.
I knew they were both from Red districts, just didn't realize what a task they actually pulled off in that election.
I recall the critical stakes in trying to just possibly take a trifecta.
And we did eek it out! And we celebrated the imposdible achievement of taking the Senate after many years in Repub control.
A bfd, as we all declared!
So just for the sake of info:
Here's Manchin:

Here's Sinema:

(5,376 posts)It's very possible that both will not be re-elected, hence cozying up to special interests now might give them a golden parachute and a soft landing for their lives after the Senate.
Thanks for the information.

(15,325 posts)..from other States if we want to keep the Senate.
These 2 seats will probably go to Repubs if they do leave.
As for AZ we really must unite behind the most high profiled D candidate with the highest #'s we can run.
Suit up cuz it will be an expensive brutal battle.

(5,376 posts)Maintaining at least a 50-50 split is as close to a sure thing as you can get this far out.
And picking up an additional 2 seats looks very good, with an outside chance of getting a third.
Fingers crossed.
