On the surface, I agree with free Community College,..

...meh!

I worked at at Community College in Florida when Scott was governor, and we were not allowed to raise tuition regardless of enrollment. It was a miserable time, and most of the faculty felt undervalued as professionals.

Now that Pres. Biden is suggesting that 2 years institutions are free for students, those same fears are encroaching. A republican legislation will never do right by Community College professors if students were allowed to attend for free. This will be a republican legislator's dream in that they will overextend Community College faculty with students and classes. Faculty will turn into 9-5 assembly line workers with few raises and no incentive to teach.

Allotting funds for education is the right thing to do. Instead of making tuition free, though, I wish he would put more into Pell Grants and other assistance programs for people who may not be able to afford it.

My emphasis isn't even on the students as much as it is on the faculty at Community College's.

If the political will exists, a free-at-service model can work without impoverishing the service providers.

lot more that cover majority of the cost. It’s doable.

Not sure what can be done about instructors feeling undervalued. States that value education will do better than rube states.
