"Thank Your for Wearing Your Mask."

That's what the checker at my supermarket said to me when I went through her line. She, like all the other employees in that store were masked. Sadly, less than half of the customers were.

It must be very frustrating for supermarket workers to be required to mask up, while the customers they serve don't have to. You'd think the customers would think about it, but they don't, apparently.

I replied, "I'm sorry everyone isn't wearing a mask. No thanks needed."

1. Interesting. Maybe the 'burbs are a little more casual than the city,

since every time I've shopped for groceries here in town every person in the store, with maybe one or two exceptions, was wearing a mask. Here in the 'hood, the high incidence of mask wearing hasn't changed much since the delta variant turned up.

There could be a correlation even at that micro level.

9. Yeah, my gut says there is definitely a correlation.

I haven't looked up voting results. My zip code is different from most of this suburb. It's tied to a small, nearby town, instead. We're on the edge of Republican territory.

3. Exactly. Besides all else, it's a courtesy to the store employees.

I had the same thought when shopping this morning: even if I felt unconcerned about the virus, I would wear this darn mask as long as the clerks were wearing theirs.

It's simple courtesy and consideration, of the sort my Mama raised us to use.

6. Yes, that's what I think, too.

If they have to wear them, then so should I, in support of them, if nothing else.

The suburb I'm in has a very high rate of vaccinations, but it also has a higher household income than some other parts of the metro area. I wonder if people who are vaccinated and who have larger disposable incomes feel more secure and don't think they need to wear masks. I don't know the answer to that, but that's what I suspect.

Oddly enough, though, the posh supermarket in the same community has more customers wearing masks than the "bag it yourself" supermarket I was in today. I shop in both stores regularly, because the posh supermarket has some things we like that aren't available at the local Cub.

Another thing I've noticed has to do with cars in this suburb. Where I lived before, you saw Toyotas and Chevys. Here, you see Acuras and Buicks. For example, we just bought a Chevy Trax, a decidedly down-market subcompact SUV. I haven't seen hardly any others in this suburb. On the other hand, I frequently see the Buick Encores, which are essentially the same econobox car, but a bit more expensive. Now, that's not really good evidence of anything, but it gives me a feel for the community, I think.

Costco shoppers seem to be @50% masked. In Walmart I am happy that they are even wearing clothes, let alone masks.

Also went to the Dollar Tree this morning there's a big sign on the door masks required. I think me and two other people had on masks. That's why I still wear my mask when I go inside anywhere.

and when I go to the store, everyone is complying. The stores post the requirement on the entrance doors.

County voted 80% Biden.

are stupid assholes not to think of other people's children! What is it with people. It's as if they never really learned high school science.

Until children are vaccinated, everyone should be wearing masks.

What, adults get vaccinated and children are just out of sight out of mind?

14. Employees at most stores here

are wearing masks. The store that seems to have the most customers wearing masks here is CVS, nearly all of them. Grocery store customers are 50/50. Discount stores like Family Dollar are also around 50/50. I am avoiding Walmart so I don't know what kind of mask habits their customers have. Last time I was in there, about a month ago, masks were very rare.
