Coppertone recalls 5 sunscreens after detecting cancer-causing benzene
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Coppertone is recalling five of its aerosol sunscreen sprays due to the presence of benzene, a chemical that can cause cancer with repeated exposure.
The products, which include SPF 50 Pure & Simple, Pure & Simple Baby, Pure & Simple Kids, Sport and Sport Mineral sprays, were manufactured between Jan. 10 and June 15.
To date, Coppertone has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall, but it is advising customers who have experienced problems due to the sunscreens to consult a doctor.
Daily exposure to benzene at the levels detected in these affected Coppertone aerosol sunscreen spray products would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences based on generally accepted exposure modeling by numerous regulatory agencies, Coppertone said.
