Certainly, demonstrating that you will take care of your new organ should be a basic one. If you kill yourself with COVID, you've wasted the organ.

At worst, some of these patients may not mount a robust immune response, but in most cases, some response is better than none. So, those refusing may not get into a clinical trial or any other advanced option. This hasn't been publicized, except among referring physicians, but it started at most of these facilities early last year.

As with the transplant patients, that is the way it SHOULD be.

But your response nailed it.
If you don’t believe in medicine and science, stay out of the damn hospitals. Go to a faith healer or a MAGA rally instead.

for transplant recipients ranges from 20 to more than 30% if they get Covid. Holy shit, no wonder hospitals have that rule.
How dumb do you have to be to take such a risk? To the end of the waiting list for you, you selfish idiot. Someone else obviously values that kidney and their life more.

Makes sense to me. Save these vital organs for people who are committed to taking care of themselves.
Maybe people will complain that that's undemocratic. But our healthcare system has never BEEN democratic! The rich and powerful don't wait years for a transplant.

or drug addicts, or others with unhealthy lifestyles, either. They want to be sure the recipients will take care of themselves so those organs, which are in short supply, won't be wasted. And since they have to take immunosuppressive drugs after the transplant, their immune systems need extra help. Won't get the jab, won't get the new kidney.

You’re on after a transplant, you’re more likely to get COVID (or any other nasty infection), and have a worse case of it. Therefore, not having the vaccination would be a suicidal combination with a transplant operation, and a waste of the organ. Also, a waste of the time and resources of the transplant team, the hospital, ICU, nurses, etc. I know, because I’m a former transplant ICU nurse.

If you need a transplant and refuse to do what’s needed to get the transplant, you don’t DESERVE it. Don’t waste MY time if you aren’t willing to work for it. Don’t waste the sacrifice of the donor (or the donor’s family), either.

This is the right call by the hospital.
