TV anchor, meteorologists quit over vaccine mandate

A news anchor on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and a meteorologist in Nebraska are among a handful of Gray Television employees to relinquish their jobs instead of getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

An 18-year employee, Meggan Gray gave up her co-hosting role on WLOX-TV's "Good Morning Mississippi" last Thursday, a day before a mandate to be fully immunized took effect on October 1, according to a local newspaper, the Sun Herald.

The Biloxi-based station's parent, Gray Television, was requiring all employees, guests, contractors and tenants to be fully vaccinated against the virus, Gray posted on Facebook. "I tried everything possible to keep my job, including offering to be tested on a weekly basis. My requests were denied," she wrote.

"I may have lost my job, but I preserved my integrity," she added.

Plenty of unvaccinated people never contract the virus, and even when they do, plenty of them survive.

But apparently she didn't try getting vaccinated.

When she is broke after contracting covid and doesn't have insurance, that integrity won't mean much.

When my first book came out I did a tour on the coast (it was based in Pascagoula, down the road from Biloxi). I went on that morning show and so help me God they sat me down during a commercial on the set with her, she looked me dead in the eye and said “I didn’t read your book…” in her drawl as she checked her makeup, and 3…2…1…we’re on! Fortunately I knew what it was about even if she didn’t give af.

I’m in full schadenfreude mode right now.

But c’mon, cliff notes? A couple of questions or hints about what she’d ask? She clearly enjoyed it. And I’m clearly enjoying this. 😃

I saw a brief clip of an anaesthesiologist from somewhere in California who left his job, and stated that he was willing to give up anything, even his life, for this “cause” - one of those, “Be careful what you wish for, you might get it,” scenarios.
