"SNIP.......

Playbook: “McConnell backed down after Democratic threats of nuking the filibuster for the debt ceiling started to become more real. At their Tuesday lunch, Democratic senators discussed how McConnell’s blockade on the debt ceiling was boosting the case of filibuster reformers. Later that day, Biden, generally a skeptic of filibuster reform, said such a change for the debt ceiling was now a ‘real possibility.’”

Also interesting: “The minority leader seemed skittish enough about where filibuster reform fever was headed in the Democratic caucus that he vetted his compromise plan with Manchin and Sinema.”

1. I think it more likely Moscow Mitch's corporate masters pulled on his reins.

A default on US Government debt will cause trillions of dollars of loss and will upend markets permanently.

Republican politicians may be willing to risk that, but their corporate donors most certainly are not.

only to hold it hostage later after the passage of the BBB uses up the opportunity to add the debt ceiling increase to the budget reconciliation bill?

I suspect McConnell will enjoy dragging this out in rightwing 'media' for as long as he can.

One person at the podium, has to continue to talk with no breaks, can't lean on anything for support et cetera. When the speaker falters, then the vote is called.

No other state government that I know of allows filibusters, why should the Senate? If you want to keep it, then make the obstructor suffer.

12. Some limits on Filibuster is required

Some limits on Filibuster in its current are required. I like that at least 41 have to stay present, and a rule that they have to talk about the bill they are blocking. And we need to be very outspoken that this doesn't exist in the constitution or any law, it is merely a custom left over from the fight over slavery. We should call it the pro-slavery filibuster, as that is what it was created to protect.
