What the hell, AT&T?OAN founder and chief executive Robert Herring Sr has testified that the inspiration to launch OAN in 2013 came from AT&T executives.
They told us they wanted a conservative network, Herring said during a 2019 deposition seen by Reuters. They only had one, which was Fox News, and they had seven others on the other [leftwing] side. When they said that, I jumped to it and built one.
Since then, AT&T has been a crucial source of funds flowing into OAN, providing tens of millions of dollars in revenue, court records show. Ninety percent of OANs revenue came from a contract with AT&T-owned television platforms, including satellite broadcaster DirecTV, according to 2020 sworn testimony by an OAN accountant.
Where are the seven left-wing news channels that AT&T says are broadcasting? This is crazy.
"Without the DirecTV deal, the accountant said under oath, the networks value would be zero.
AT&T must stop funding conspiracy theories and propaganda, "Without the DirecTV deal, the accountant said under oath, the networks value would be zero.
It's no wonder Trump kept promoting OAN leading up to and then after he lost the 2020 election.

And I can't even think what the other two would be.

(3,406 posts)I made a career as a manager with AT&T and it's spinoff companies. In the early 90s, I was in a business lunch with a marketing vice president in Texas.
While we are having lunch, this executive received a phone call from his VERY ANGRY mother. This woman's pastor had urged everyone in the flock to STOP USING AT&T, because...wait for it...the company sanctioned and encouraged an LGBTQ employee organization.
The poor man spent ten minutes trying to calm his mother down and explain that he would not be quitting this evil company.
That was long ago, and the AT&T brand is the moniker for a much different company than I worked for. While always a conservative company, it was a welcoming place to work in my time there. It was a pioneer in promoting women into senior executive positions.
AT&T should be held accountable by customers for it's political profile. ANY member of ALEC should also explain their participation. That list is so long, it would be hard to boycott them all.

(59,501 posts)At&T was a shadow of its former self by the 2000s. It was then bought by the Southwest Bell regional company out of Texas. One asset they got was the name. I think that happened in 2005.
This is a sad end to a once great company that helped the world through Bell Labs.
