(51,444 posts)The U.S. Senate on Thursday approved legislation to temporarily raise the federal government's $28.4 trillion debt limit and avoid the risk of a historic default later this month, but it put off until early December a decision on a longer-lasting remedy.
The Senate voted 50-48 to pass the bill following weeks of partisan fighting.

(15,265 posts)that no legislation get passed unless the monied interests, corporations, and wealthy want it to pass. We sometimes fool ourselves into thinking that is that not the case. In this iteration it is Manchin and Sinema that are the vehicle ti stop this full bill from passing. If it were not them it would be some other senator(s). This is no longer a government by the people for the people.

(31,261 posts)Monied interests, since the nations founding, have controlled national affairs. Today, with organized lobbyists, things are corrosive. There is no real public lobby, Common Cause used to do a decent job, but that organization seems to have receded into the background.

From the Republican view point, this was a fighting withdrawal.
