Musk's move of Tesla's headquarters from California to Texas goes further to show his absolute lack of civic responsibility.
And if I read DU correctly, the number of potential Tesla buyers here is pretty small. And hopefully, just got smaller still.

CA is crazily unaffordable.

(13,479 posts)We do not have the infrastructure for electric cars here. Very few charging stations. A couple just went in on the street in Park Slope. Some at Whole Foods. But, despite that, since this summer, I've seen more and more and more Tesla's on the road. They're almost as common as the Subaru here. lol.
WHY? Status symbol mixed with a feeling that you're doing good for the environment.
Nobody cares about Elon Musk being a total asshole.
We are in one of the most liberal enclaves here in BK, and people just don't care that he's moving his company to Texas despite the abortion rights struggle.
I'm stating reality. I don't agree with that position. I hate Musk, and if I had to buy an electric car, it would be a Prius. (Though I'm sure Honda has some problematic behaviors.)
Luckily in NYC you don't NEED a car for transportation. (Though traffic is worse than ever and there are more than ever on the road.... that's a whole other topic.)

(7,404 posts)Its popped up in the news numerous times the last few years. Most consumers simply wont care, especially Teslas cult-like following. Did outraged people shun Apple products after the multiple times they have been caught using Chinese child labor to assemble their products? Hasnt slowed them down much if at all.

Musk? He's a jerk. IMHO he shouldn't be in a position where he can unilaterally decide, all by himself (as the OP implies, I don't know exact details) to do things like move corporate operations. I would get him out of corporate management & give him something like an advisory position on the board. He could advise but his advice could be disregarded by those who actually make the decisions.

Elon Musks growing empire is fueled by $4.9 billion in government subsidies

Without government subsidies, there is no possibility that anyone would have resumed building cars in the Fremont plant.

(7,404 posts)Tens of millions of people are either in pension plans that own Tesla stock or own it directly as part of their personal portfolios. Maybe its possible well see some kind of large pension plan like CalPERS say they are divesting from Tesla stock but Tesla still has such a large presence in California I dont think theyll do anything like that anytime soon.
