Tailgater brought to you by Escalade and Religion.

Last edited Sun Oct 10, 2021, 09:45 PM - Edit history (1)

Driving along today I took note of the gigantic Cadillac Escalade grill in my rear view window. They were tailgating so close that I could see the bug sacrifices on their windshield. After tailgating me for a while they roared around on the left going easily 20 MPH over the speed limit in a crowded pedestrian area.

As the passed I noticed on their back window, in giant letters, something like "Follow the lord and he will provide a life of abundance." Or some such claptrap.

Ok. Well. It was abundantly clear to me this road rager was possibly a religious wacko, enraged his immediate desires weren't met, while driving a climate choking, gas-hogging example of excessive consumerism.

2. At least it wasn't night. The Escalade has the most dangerous headlights on the road.

Whenever I see behind me two headlights so intense that I have to change lanes to keep my night vision from being destroyed -- and two-lane roads are not wide enough for that -- and drop my speed to about 40 so they'll pass me faster -- I always think, "Gotta be an Escalade". And it always is. I can't help but wonder how many accidents have been caused by such blindingly bright headlights, and why in Hell anyone thought it was appropriate to install those in a vehicle.

4. Why isn't there some federal limit on the brightness of headlights?

You know, only so many 'lumens' or whatever.
When I'm on a two-lane road at night, and two or three of these vehicles are coming toward me, by the time they pass I'm momentarily blinded.
I know I'm older than I was, and my eyes aren't what they used to be, BUT THESE HEADLIGHTS AREN'T WHAT THEY USED TO BE!
I use the tinted night-driving glasses, but they don't help much.

6. "Tinted night-driving glasses" -- I didn't know there was such a thing, thanks.

As for why there isn't a law -- lobbyist $$$$, I'm guessing.

I need to contact the IIHS about it.

on the back. I was curious what was on the front and he noticed me looking around to see it. He turned and said, “Have you found Jesus?” Without thinking I said, “I didn’t know he was lost.” He was an older guy and looked a little surprised, and the two teenagers behind me snickered. I added,” When was he last seen?” The teens laughed out loud and the old guy looked confused and turned away.

huge pickups, too.

I live on a very busy arterial street with a 45 MPH speed limit. To get into my development, I have to make a right turn onto a side street. I can't tell you how many times some guy in a monster pickup has roared by me after I make the turn. Accelerator to the floor and black diesel smoke.

I'm very careful about signaling my turn well in advance of making the turn. It doesn't matter. Even if there is no traffic in the left lane, those guys never do the lane change. Instead, they ride up on my ass and then slam the gas when I've made my turn. What's that about?

Of course, wherever they're going, they're going to have to make a turn off the same street. But, my street isn't their turn, so I guess they're pissed off that they have to slow down so I can make my turn.
