There will be a second insurrection. Fox News and the Republican Party are making sure of it
Oct 10, 2021 1:53pm EDT by Hunter, Daily Kos Staff
Donald Trump's election lies led to a violent insurrection. There were deaths. For the briefest of moments, it looked as if at least a handful of Republican leaders who had to flee the mob of far-right militants that day would distance themselves from a delusional thug's attempt to topple democracy rather than admit personal failure; instead, each fell back into line as soon as the day's adrenaline had worn off.
The Republican Party has now adopted the big lie, the hoax that looks to undermine democracy by declaring that important elections not won by Republican candidates are somehow "rigged" or "fraudulent," and are running with it. The chances are good that there will be another insurrection or similar act of terrorism in the next election. Fox News and top Republican leaders are both making sure of that.

(2,958 posts)If there is no price to irresponsible rabble rousing it will only get worse. I must admit the right's messaging is very good at skirting up to, but not completely, crossing the line. If we had a stronger majority in Congress I'd say move the line but doubt we'd get that done.
I do think an exact repeat of Jan 6 is unlikely for a number of reasons. Folks got hunted down and thrown in jail and fined and the fantasy that Trump will forever be in power and there will be no consequences has been shattered. Also think Capitol Police and others won't get caught with their fences down and underarmed again.
I do think at the state level, legal and procedural attacks on the election system and processes will not only continue but increase. That is my REAL worry.
