(28,817 posts)Such a musical genius.
Not so much on the human relationship front.

(2,396 posts)He's not a Rock God with feet of clay, he's a disgusting human being.
He appropriates black music to become a zillionaire and calls them vile names.
He inserts himself into the US pandemic crisis and encourages thousands to not get the vaccine because he had a rare reaction (I guess). He could have handled that much differently instead of hooking up with prominent RW politicians whose unvaccinated citizens are dying in droves, besides all the other issues that come along with that.
What the hell is wrong with him.
Just my 2¢

(11,008 posts)I'm blown away that he was SO racist in the 60s and 70s, it was publicly documented, and no one talked about it until he started spouting anti-vaxx bullshit.
That his statements about Hendrix, IN ROLLING STONE, right after MLK's assassination didn't kill his career at the beginning is mind-boggling.
He was still expressing admiration of Enoch Powell within the past 10-20 years as well.

(2,396 posts)instead of just niche rock and roll magazines (I don't think the average person reads Rolling Stone even though it's quite famous) maybe it would have had more of an impact.
Also, for his fans that did read R&R magazines, who knows how many people silently agreed with him.

(6,019 posts)Not to mention Muddy Waters paving the way for ALL the British blues/rock bands of the late 60's. He's always been a sorry, angry asshole.

(13,582 posts)And much better human beings. This guy is and always has been a sexist, racist, alcoholic and addict.

(11,008 posts)Now it's looking like that was the least objectionable thing he did.

(3,730 posts)And NOW people suddenly have a problem with him?

(11,008 posts)I'm younger, but I was listening to Cream, Blind Faith, etc. when I was in high school in the 80s. Heard all about his alcoholism, his drug problems, him stealing Patty from George, but nothing about his racism. It was just kind of swept under the rug in the States, it seems.
Kittycow
(2,396 posts)and I was in high school, buying Cream and Blind Faith albums as soon as they came out. I only knew about his wife stealing and child death.

(54,349 posts)I saw him about ten years ago in New York doing a charity benefit concert with Wynton Marsalis, and they seemed to be the closest of buds.

(54,349 posts)They didn't rehearse the set just once in the afternoon prior, either. This was some serious music, and they both visibly enjoyed the back and forth of playing with each other. That's why I said it must run hot and cold. I agree totally on Wynton, and if he was THAT comfortable with Clapton, there was clearly some positive chemistry there.

(64,995 posts)There's a long ago HBO special where he & BB are on stage together.
They appeared to genuinely like one another.
Is he that good an actor?
DFW
(54,349 posts)He idolized BB King from the moment he first heard him on a record. That was real.

(11,631 posts)The rock n roll antithesis is Bobby Weir, John Mayer and Dead & Co they recently canceled two sold out outdoor arena shows in Florida costing themselves likely a couple million because they couldnt maintain their tour vaccination regulations with Desantis antivaxx rules.
