FDA finds that Moderna's booster dose enhances virus-fighting antibodies

The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday said a booster dose of Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine enhanced virus-fighting antibodies, while maintaining an ambivalent tone about whether a third dose is currently needed.

The agency’s review came just after Moderna submitted to the FDA a briefing suggesting that a booster of its vaccine could protect against breakthrough infections from the delta variant.

The FDA is scheduled to meet Thursday and Friday, when independent experts will advise the agency on questions about booster shots’ safety and effectiveness, as well as whether people can safely take a booster made by a company different from their original shot.

Wish they would hurry up in providing the Moderna booster. Those of us who got the two Moderna shots early this year are due for a booster.

& it's technically a 3rd dose of the same stuff Moderna folk received previously, yeah?

I don't know if Pfizer's booster is different than the first 2 doses or not. If not I don't know why Pfizer's booster has been approved while Moderna's hasn't. I don't fully understand vaccine vs booster I guess.

Pfizer has been approved because Pfizer submitted its documents earlier than Moderna.
They are still discussing whether to approve Moderna's booster.

We will eventually get to the point where we get annual updates, which address the newest variants. Not there yet.

I am high risk and an antibody test came back with a very low level of antibodies. Two of my doctors told me to get the third shot. I got the regular Moderna shot which has twice the load of the proposed Moderna boosters.

I haven't gotten the antibody test, but I had a reaction to the booster. So judging by my reaction I should have made more antibodies.

The planned moderna booster will be one-half of the dosage that we got

I felt like crap the day after the booster.

No one knows for sure what the antibody tests mean but the general wisdom is that the higher the antibody level, the more immediated protection.

Half a dose hasn't been approved yet.
I don't mind getting the full dose, my side effects went away after two days.

We were in SoCal. Just had to bring our Covid vaccination records and fill out a small form. No problem.
