ROCKFORD, Ill. – There’s now a third candidate — and the first Democrat — looking to be the next 17th District Congressperson in 2022. Teacher and Rockford Alderman Jonathan Logemann formally threw his hat into the ring Wednesday — and will reportedly be the second Rockford alderman to do so, after Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara said “no” to a run.

Logemann teaches high school business and economics, and is a Captain in the Army National Guard. He would be the third member of the military to run in the district that covers part of the Peoria area.

“I know the challenges hard-working Illinois families are facing – because [wife] Sarah and I live it every day,” said Logemann, in a news release. “I’m running for Congress because we need less career politicians in Washington and more people who understand the struggle, firsthand.”

Published reports suggest fellow Alderman Linda McNeely will also run for the seat incumbent Cheri Bustos is vacating. Two Republicans are also running, including Quad Cities attorney and Army Reservist Esther Joy King, whom Bustos defeated in 2020, and Quad Cities businessman Charlie Helmick, who served in the Marine Corps.
